This genealogy and history web site is devoted to any and all
types of information concerning Wolfe Island, Howe Island,
Garden Island, Simcoe Island and Amherst Island.
This site is a repository of information on these islands.
This site had been closed since 2008.
But was reopened in Sept of 2012. Jen Wylie no longer has the time it takes to
keep the site updated so she asked me if I would take it over until she is able to work on it again.
My name is Thelma Moye & I will add some information about me at a later date.
Please feel free to use the information here for your personal research.

Updates!

January 4,2013...We started out the New Year with some obits added to the site. For Amherst Island the surnames of the obits added were Miller, Reid,& Wemp. For Howe Island surnames were Beseau, Dowling, Driscoll,Ellerton, Gannon, Hobbs, Leavis, Loyst, Norris, Ottenhof, Prior, Welsh. Will be adding things to this web site at least once a week this year so check back often. I have more to add in the next few days until I get caught up. If you can offer any help or have anything you would like to have added please e mail me at theislands553@gmail.com & I will respond as soon as I can.

January 6, 2013......Added some more obits today. Howe Islands surnames on obits are Marshall. The Wolfe island surnames are McDonald, Hennessey,Cosgrove,Murphy,& Fawcett. I have found that some people have two different obits from different pages but if you find that I have more then one obit that is the same please let me know & I will fix it. Send me their name ,which Island it appears on & the transcription page. If you see one obit on two different Islands it may be that they were associated with both Islnads.Have a few pictures to add as soon as I am able. These obits were sent in by Wilf Garrah & transcribed by Pat Mcavoy-Costin. Thank you both..

January 28, 2013....Did a few updates today. If anyone has anything to add send them in. We need more info on some of the smaller Islands. William Collins Dixon 3rd passed away on Fri. His family came from W.I. & him & his wife Nan have contributed so much to this site. My heart goes to the family at this sad time..He was a great family man. ...

February 23, 2013....I made some corrections today & added 3 new obits Bernie Marshall of Howe Island , Anna Shimek & Mary Stevenson both of Amherst Island. I am looking for someone who could take the time & update the cemeteries on each Island. I also need to make sure I have all the cemeteries listed if you can help please let me know.I will add a few more pictures I have as soon as I can.

March 6, 2013....Added a couple more obits today. Margaret (Maggie) Grimshaw - Wolfe Island & Gary Thomas Edward Reid of Howe Island. Both deaths were in 2013...If anyone has any pictures of cars, cutters & etc. crossing the ice would you let me know or send me a copy . Would like to add them. Still need the cemetery updates if anyone would like to help, let me know Thanks..

March 9, 2013....Added a couple of 1878 maps of Wolfe Island also some Howe Islands picture. Let me know if there is anything you would like to see on here that we don't have..

March 18, 2013....Added two obits one on Howe Island page 8 & one on Wolfe Island page 24. They were for June Theresa (Driscoll) Kendall of Howe Island & Donald Leonard MacDondald of Wolfe island.

April 30,2013.....Added more obits today. To Howe Island I added two new ones for Veronica Bertrand.2013, William Earl Prior.2013,and for Wolfe island I added Eileen Robinson 2008, Paul Johnson 2011, Patricia (Darling) Coulter 2013, Rosemary (Murphy) Cox 2009, Ralph Taggart 2009, Mary (Hulton) Hawley 2004, Mary (McKenna) Mcdonald , Sidney Eves 2008, Carol Vaughan 2005, Christina (formerly Murphy nee: Zimmerman) Kane 2012, Audrey Garnsey (nee niles) , Eugene Hulton 2009, Catherine Anne Murphy Doyle 2009, Marion Hawkins 2004, Rachael Horne 2008, Vincent Lollor 2004, Joyce Mosier 2007, Larry Charles Staley 2012, Hugh Andrew Taggart 2006.

May 26, 2013....Spent the day adding more information. New pictures under Howe Island people Page #25 & Wolfe Island obits # 24. Obits I added were for Jacobus "Jake" DeVette,Joseph Edward Greenwood,Gail Kathleen Hill-Devlin,Judith Smitten, Connie Woodman. If anyone has anything to add please send it to me & I will add it as soon as I can...

June 2, 2013..Another obit added to Howe Island for Mary Elizabeth (nee:Quinn) MacPherson who died on May 22, 2013. It has been brought to my attention that a lot of the emails under researchers are no longer working. If you are on this list can you please check to see if your email is active if not I want to be able to update them. under the research name Reid I have Maureen Deacon who needs a new email, hers is no longer valid. If anyone has an up to date email for her can you get it to me. I have someone wanting to get in touch with her..

June 8, 2013...Added some new pictures today.One is of the first car on Wolfe Island but I didn't have a name for the man in the picture with it. If you know who it is please let me know, Thank you..

I am happy to announce that the Frontenac County Schools Museum is now up and running once more.
The museum is now located in Barriefield just east of Kingston, north of Highway 2 (on the opposite side of Highway 2 is Old Fort Henry) at 414 Regent Street.
There are also new hours. July and August: Tuesday to Friday 9am � 4pm, and Saturday 11am � 3pm. During the rest or the year September � June: Monday and Wednesday 9am -12pm. or by appointment.

Please don't forget that you can search THIS SITE using the Freefind search engine at the top left. Unfortunetly there is no soundex search so be sure to try various name spellings. The transcriptions on this site are as accurate as possible in spelling, and we all know how terrible some of our ancestors, and those who wrote down records, were in the past! Best of luck!
