ELZIE M’DEARMAN LOSES LIFE UNDER WHEELS OF TRAIN

Elzie McDearman, aged 15 years, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank McDearman, was fatally injured when he fell beneath the wheels of a Santa Fe freight train in the local yards about  9 o’clock Saturday night.   He died about 3 o’clock Sunday morning.

The deplorable accident occurred near the old Santa Fe freight house, where in company with some other boys, deceased was attempting to catch a freight train which was pulling out of  the yards going south.  It is said the boys intended to ride the freight train to Sanger and come back on passenger train No. 6.  Young McDearman missed his hold when he attempted to swing onto the train and fell beneath the wheels.  He was not badly mangled, but nearly all the flesh of his right side from the waist down was cut away, death resulting from the loss of blood and the shock.

Following the accident the alarm was quickly given by the other boys and a physician was secured as quickly as possible, but considerable time had elapsed before he was taken to the sanitarium, and the loss of blood had been so great and the shock to his entire system so severe that the spark of life could not be saved.

Elzie was a bright, energetic and industrious boy and had many friends among both old and young, and his tragic death  was a severe shock to the entire city.  His parents and other loved ones have the utmost sympathy of all in their trying hour.  The remains were taken to Callisburg this afternoon, where interment occurred under the direction of Geo. J. Carroll.
