Garrity dated 4 Oct 2002 including marriage notices from the 1 Oct and 2 Oct 1847 issues of the New York Daily Tribune. The first listing gives the last name as Wates while the second gives it as Wales. There were two Wales families living in Beverly, Mass. in the 1840 census, and none by the name of Wates, so the surname is probably Wales. (hereafter cited as Website Source).

138. Margaret's parentage is unproven at present but seems likely. A note passed down by descendants (described in full below) gives her full maiden name, and also states that her children later lived with their Bean grandparents. The 1860 census of Mercer, Maine shows these two children (George and Malinda) living in the family of John and Ann Bean, and there is also an Ann Wallingford there (spelled Walingford in the census) who is the correct age (25) to be our Margaret Ann (Bean) Wallingford.

140. Scanned image of the note now in possession of the author. The sugar bowl was passed from George Wallingford to his son Roland, and it is believed that his wife Edna is the author of the note. As it states in the note, when Edna died it was passed on to her niece Phyllis Allen of Wales, Maine, daughter of Marshall and Edna (Wallingford) Yokell, where it resides in 2004. It probably went to her because she and her husband used to visit Aunt Edna and no one else did. Phyllis Allen has promised to pass it on to her daughter Edna Grace Wallingford (Allen) Thomas.
