157. Otis5 Wallingford (Daniel4, Daniel3, Lebanon2 Wallingfords, Unconnected1) was born in Alfred, York County, Maine 17 September 1872. His date of birth comes from his gravestone, while his place of birth and parentage is from a family group sheet filled out by his son Harvey. That sheet gives his birthdate only as 1874, so the place could be wrong as well.(755) Otis died 20 October 1950.(756) He was buried in the Evergreen Cemetery in Alfred, Maine with his wife Mary, son(?) Harry O., John H. Stevens and his wife Lillian B., and a child named William Wallingford Shaw. How these others are related is unknown at present.
He married Mary L. McKenney, 26 January 1893, in Springvale, York County, Maine.(757) Mary would have been not quite 15 at the time of her marriage, which seems to be too young. Her birth date comes from a gravestone and her marriage date comes from the Maine Archives marriage index on the Internet, so one of the two could be in error. Her son Harvey wrote that she was born in 1877, which would help out by one year. He also wrote that their first child, Harvey himself, was born in August of 1893, seven months after they were married, so the marriage date probably isn't any later. It was probably a situation where they 'had to' get married. At the time they were married they were both living in Alfred, Maine.
Mary was born 29 December 1878, in Alfred, York County, Maine. This date comes from her gravestone. A family group sheet filled out by her son Harvey says she was born in Alfred, Maine on 29 December 1877 and also gives her parentage. The birth year he gave for his father Otis differed from the gravestone as well, so he may have been wrong here too.(758) Mary was the daughter of George McKenney and Alma Reeves.
Mary died 20 April 1968, in Lewiston, Androscoggin County, Maine.(759) Her name and birth date are on a tombstone in the Evergreen Cemetery in Alfred, Maine with her husband Otis, son(?) Harry O., John H. Stevens and his wife Lillian B., and a child named William Wallingford Shaw. How these others are related is unknown at present. The source of this information only records her birth date and since that source was published in 1995, long after she died, she may have been buried elsewhere.(760) He was a farmer living in Alfred, Maine in 1905 according to a town directory. In that directory Otis and his wife Mary are listed with all four of their children.(761) Otis was still in Alfred when Charles Wallingford contacted him for information about his 1942 Wallingford genealogy.(762)
Otis Wallingford and Mary L. McKenney had the following children:
+ 270 i. Harvey Earnest6 Wallingford was born 4 August 1893.
271 ii. Alma Wallingford was born in Alfred, York County, Maine 9 November 1895.(763) Alma died 15 May 1982, in Auburn, Androscoggin County, Maine.(764) She married William O. Skinner, 30 June 1921, in Maine.(765) At the time of their marriage they were born living in Auburn, Maine.
William was born 2 December 1886.(766) William died 19 June 1969, in Lewiston, Androscoggin County, Maine.(767) This death record from the Maine State Archives website could be for a different William O. Skinner, but it seems probable that they are one in the same, especially as they did live in the Lewiston-Auburn area.
272 iii. Harry Otis Wallingford was born in Alfred, York County, Maine 7 March 1898. Date is from his gravestone, although his brother Harvey wrote that he was born in 1897. Place of birth comes from his brother as well.(768) Harry died 22 May 1948.(769) He married Beatrice E. Cluff, 20 October 1917, in Maine.(770) At the time of their marriage they were both living in Alfred, Maine. It isn't proven yet that this Harry O. married Beatrice Cluff, but the dates and locations look promising.
273 iv. Marcia Edna Wallingford was born 21 December 1901.(771) Marcia died in December 1986. Her last residence according to the SSDI was in Hampstead, N.H.(772) She married Henry M. Shaw, 24 September 1932, in Maine.(773) Marcia was living in Portland and Henry was living in Scarboro, Maine when they were married. It is not proven that the Marcia E. who married Henry Shaw is the same as Marcia Edna daughter of Otto, but it seems likely, especially considering that the Social Security Death Index has a death record for a Marcia Shaw born on the same date as our Marcia Edna.
Henry was born 14 October 1900.(774) Henry died in August 1987. His last residence according to the SSDI was in Hampstead, N.H., the same as his wife, so we probably have the correct SSDI death record here.(775)
