586. Seth Otis8 Wallingford (Richard7, Tobias6, John5, John4, John3, John2, Nicholas1) was born in Alton, Strafford County, New Hampshire about 1831.(3119) His gravestone says he died aged 83, which would have him born about 1824, before his parents were married. But the 1850 and 1860 censuses would have him born about 1831, which seems more likely. Evidently his age was reportedly incorrectly at the time of his death. Seth died 5 July 1907, in Sandwich, Carroll County, New Hampshire.(3120) He was buried in Alton, N.H.(3121)

He married Betsey J. Ricker, 4 June 1854, in Alton, Belknap County, New Hampshire.(3122) Their marriage intention was filed in New Durham, N.H. on 29 May 1854.(3123)

Betsey was born about 1836, in New Durham, Strafford County, New Hampshire.(3124) (Calculated from census records and age on gravestone.) Betsey was the daughter of Luther Ricker and Louise Witham.

Betsey died of consumption, 30 August or 1 September 1901, in New Durham, Strafford County, New Hampshire, at 65 years of age.(3125) She was buried with her husband in Alton, N.H.(3126)

In 1850 Otis was a 19-year old farmer, born N.H., living with his parents in Alton, N.H.(3127) Ten years later he was married and living next door in the same house as his parents in Alton. He gave his occupation as "day labourer" and had two children. His property was worth $300.(3128) In 1870, still in Alton, the ages of most members of the family don't correlate with earlier censuses, so the information likely came from a neighbor. Otis' occupation was given as farm labourer, and there were four children in the household.(3129)

Seth Otis Wallingford and Betsey J. Ricker had the following children:

child 748 i. Almon9 Wallingford was born probably in Alton, N.H. 12 January 1855. (Calculated from his age at death.) Almon died unmarried, 19 October 1876, in Alton, Belknap County, New Hampshire, at 21 years of age.(3130) He was buried with his parents in Alton, N.H.(3131)

child 749 ii. Etta [A. or J.] Wallingford was born probably in Alton, N.H. about March 1858.(3132) (She was two in the 1860 census and 15 years, 1 month when she died.) Etta died 26 April 1873, probably in Alton, N.H..(3133) She is Etta A. in the 1860 census and Etta J. on her gravestone. Shackford calls her Betsey.

child 750 iii. Warren W. Wallingford was born probably in Alton, N.H. about 1863.(3134) His age was given as 7 in the 1870 census, but several other family members appear to have incorrect ages so this may not be right for him either. Shackford says his residence was unknown in 1907.(3135)

child + 751 iv. Charles Wallingford was born about 1866-67.

child 752 v. Bertie Wallingford was born probably in Alton, N.H. 18 February 1872.(3136) Bertie died 30 August 1882, in Alton, Belknap County, New Hampshire.(3137) Was it Bertie or Bertha? There is a B. Wallingford in the family plot in Alton who was born 12 February 1873 and died 30 August 1883.(3138) Given the close coincidence in the dates here this stone is probably for Bertie/Bertha, but which are the correct dates?

child + 753 vi. Eva Wallingford was born 1 September 1877.

child 754 vii. Bertie Wallingford was born 1 September 1882.(3139)
