494. Mary7 Wallingford (Charles6, Nathaniel5, Nathaniel4, James3, James2, Nicholas1) was born in Groveland, Essex, Massachusetts 18 February 1851.(2811)

She married Thomas Henderson Finney, 14 June 1870, in Groveland, Essex, Massachusetts.(2812) The Wallingford genealogy(2813) and Shackford(2814) both state that she was born in Groveland, Mass. on 18 February 1851 and that she married Thomas H. Finney 14 June 1870. Bradford records, however, have a marriage between Mary Wallingford and T.H. Finney on 16 June 1840,(2815) four years before "her" parents were married. These published Bradford records appear to be wrong. Those records come from a family Bible so it could have been a simple transcription error or even an error in the Bible. Their Mass. vital records marriage record states that Thomas was a shoemaker and that they both were living in Groveland at the time of their marriage.

Thomas was born 27 June 1843?, in St. John, Lower Canada.(2816) Thomas was the son of John Finney and Annie Lane. Thomas died of cirrhosis of the liver, 12 June 1915, at home, 150 Main St., in Groveland, Essex, Massachusetts.(2817) He was buried in Riverview Cemetery in Groveland on June 15th.

Thomas and Mary and their two sons Charles and Thomas were living in Groveland when the 1880 census was taken. Thomas worked as a shoe contractor at the time.(2818) When the 1900 census was taken Thomas and Mary were living alone in Groveland. Thomas worked as a foreman in a shoe shop and it said that he was a naturalized citizen who came to this country from Canada in 1865. They had been married for 31 years and Mary was the mother of three children, only one of whom was then living.(2819) Ten years later Mary's mother Elizabeth was living with them at 150 Main St. in Groveland and Thomas was a superintendent in a shoe factory. Mary was said to be the mother of three children, none of whom were then living.(2820) Mary was still living there when her husband died in 1915. The occupation listed on his death certificate was "shoe contractor".

In 1920 "Mrs. Mary Finney" was enumerated as still at 150 Main St. in Groveland. No occupation was given but she had four boarders living with her so could be said to operate a boarding house.(2821)

Mary Wallingford and Thomas Henderson Finney had the following children:

child 669 i. John Palmer8 Finney was born probably in Groveland, Massachusetts. John died before 1 June 1900. The 1900 census states that his mother had had three children but only one was then living, which would apply to his brother Charles. He died in infancy.(2822)

child 670 ii. Charles Byron Finney was born in Groveland, Essex, Massachusetts in 1870.(2823) He was age 9 in the 1880 census. Charles died 3 April 1910, in Amesbury, Essex County, Massachusetts.(2824) He married Cecile Pender, 14 November 1895 or 1899.(2825) Cecile was born 17 May 1873, in Newburyport, Essex County, Massachusetts.(2826) Cecile was the daughter of Robert Bruce Pender and Louisa Eaton. Cecile died 24 July 1948, in Amesbury, Essex County, Massachusetts.(2827)

Charles and Cecile had one son.(2828)

child 671 iii. Thomas Parker Finney was born probably in Groveland, Massachusetts about 1876/77. He was age 3 in the 1880 census. Thomas died 20 July 1899. He died young and was never married.(2829)
