568. Nathaniel L.8 Wallingford (Jonathan7, Garland6, John5, John4, John3, John2, Nicholas1) was born in Berwick, York County, Maine 20 January 1821.(2974) (Calculated from age at death) Nathaniel died of inanition, 24 March 1896, in Somersworth, Strafford County, New Hampshire, at 75 years of age.(2975) Inanition is defined as the wasting of the body from starvation.

He married Mary Fifield.(2976) Mary was born about 1837, in Somersworth, Strafford County, New Hampshire.(2977) Mary was the daughter of Charles N. Fifield and Unknown Lord. Mary died of marasmus, 6 March 1896, probably in Somersworth, New Hampshire, at 58 years of age.(2978) Marasmus is a condition characterized by the gradual wasting of the body in those of advanced age.

He lived in Blackwater, NH.(2980) (This is the name of one of the school districts in Dover, N.H., and the name was often mentioned as a locality in the early records.(2981) )

Nathaniel appears with his parents in the 1850 census of Berwick, Maine, but the 1850 census of Somersworth has a Nathaniel Wallingford, age 27, born Maine, occupation "Manufacturer", living in the household of Charles Carr. With the Carr family are some people from Ireland, as well as an 82-year old Susan Wallingford, who could be Susanna (Corson) Wallingford, wife of this Nathaniel's great uncle Moses, but there is no telling for sure.(2982) Moses Wallingford's property in Lebanon, Maine was passed to a Charles Carr after his death in 1847(2983) , so there is a connection right there. Next door are James and Polly Wallingford. James may be the uncle of this Nathaniel. The two Nathaniels (in Berwick and in Somersworth in 1850) could be the same person, but there is not enough evidence to prove that at this point. The 1860 census of Somersworth, N.H. has a Nathaniel L. Wallingford, age 39, a carder born in Maine, living with Charlotte C. Wallingford, age 49, born in N.H., and Mary C. Wallingford, age 4, born in N.H.(2984) The age is correct for it to be this Nathaniel, but the wife and child, if that is who they are, don't match at all.

Nathaniel L. Wallingford and Mary Fifield had the following child:

child 711 i. Laura9 Wallingford was born in Somersworth, N.H.? about 1878?.(2985) She married Charles F. Smith, 14 August 1908, in Somersworth, Strafford County, New Hampshire.(2986) Charles was born about 1848, in Somersworth, Strafford County, New Hampshire.(2987)
