422. Lewis7 Wallingford (Joshua6, John5, John4, John3, John2, Nicholas1) was born in Lebanon, York County, Maine 17 November 1814.(2433) (Ancestral File for date) Lewis died 17 March 1878, in Lebanon, York County, Maine.(2434)
He married Abigail Merrow, 22 January 1844?, in Dover, Strafford County, New Hampshire.(2435) They filed a marriage intention in Lebanon, Maine 1 January 1843. Abigail was of Somersworth and Lewis was of Lebanon at that time.(2436) The source for the actual marriage date gives the year as 1844 but as their first child Mary was apparently born in 1843 one wonders if this may be incorrect.
Abby was born about June 1810?, in Acton, York County, Maine.(2437) (Calculated from her age at death, which was 77y, 7m. In the 1850 census she was 38, in 1860 she was 46, and in 1870 she was 57, which all seem to indicate a birth more in the time period of 1812-14 rather than 1810. Note: Acton wasn't incorporated until 1830 so she was probably technically born in another town that later became Acton.) Abby was the daughter of Isaac Merrow and Mary Kenney.
Abby died 13 January 1888, probably in Rochester, N.H..(2438) According to the LDS "Ancestral File" they were both buried in Rochester yet died in Lebanon, Maine.
They were living in Lebanon in 1850 when the census was taken. Lewis, 35 and born in Maine, was a farmer living on a farm worth $1000. With him were wife Abagail, 38, and daughters Mary A., 7, and Sarah, 4. This was in the area of town sometimes called "Wallingford City" due to the large number of Wallingford families in the area.(2439) They were still there in 1860. Lewis was still a farmer, and his land was still worth $1000. His personal property was valued at $150.(2440) In 1870 Lewis and Abigail were living alone in Lebanon. He was still a farmer on a piece of property now worth $1500, with personal belongings worth $500.(2441)
Lewis Wallingford and Abigail Merrow had the following children:
+ 555 i. Mary Abbie8 Wallingford was born 8 July 1843.
+ 556 ii. Sarah Maria Wallingford was born 20 February 1846.
557 iii. Charles Wallingford was born probably in Lebanon, Maine about 1851. (He was 9 in the 1860 census of Lebanon.) Is he the Charles Wallingford, age 22, born in Maine, who died in August 1870 in Monroe Co., Florida? This Charles was a soldier in the army who died of yellow fever and was listed in the mortality schedule of the 1870 census.(2442)
558 iv. Eleanor (or Llewellan?) F. Wallingford was born probably in Lebanon, Maine about 1852. The name Eleanor F. comes from a submission to the LDS Ancestral File. In the 1860 census of Lebanon is an 8-year old girl named Llewellan, which is more than likely this Eleanor.
