35. Hepzibah³ Wallingford (James², Nicholas¹) was born in Bradford, Essex County, Massachusetts 23 September 1695.⁽⁵⁵⁸⁾ Hepzibah died 31 March 1749, in Tewksbury, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.⁽⁵⁵⁹⁾ The death record says she was aged 59, which would put her birth about 1690, so is likely in error.

She married Zechariah Hardy, 23 February 1715/16, in Bradford, Essex County, Massachusetts.⁽⁵⁶⁰⁾ Zechariah was born 20 February 1685/6, in Bradford, Essex County, Massachusetts.⁽⁵⁶¹⁾ Zechariah was the son of John Hardy and Mary Jackman. Zechariah died of consumption, 14 or 15 October 1763, in Tewksbury, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.⁽⁵⁶²⁾ Zachariah was one of the pioneer emigrants to Tewksbury, which at the time was still part of Billerica. His house was the first built in North Tewksbury, being erected in 1736, and in 1935 it was still standing on Rogers St. in the center of town. The History of Billerica by Hazen gives them an additional son Ebenezer, but this is in error. Ebenezer was a son of Thomas and Martha Hardy.⁽⁵⁶³⁾

Hepzibah Wallingford and Zechariah Hardy had the following children:

Zachariah⁴ Hardy was born 8 December 1715.⁽⁵⁶⁴⁾ Dean Crawford Smith places Zachariah in this family with a birthdate before his parents' marriage, based solely on a typescript genealogy at the NEHGS written in 1903 and 1931 by William B. Ladd titled "Record of the Hardy Family Who Have Lived in East Bradford and Groveland". He doesn't appear with this family in any other records thus far.

John Hardy was born in Bradford, Essex County, Massachusetts 28 November 1716.⁽⁵⁶⁵⁾ John died 29 April 1801, in Tewksbury, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.⁽⁵⁶⁶⁾ He married Abigail Kidder, 1 March 1743, in Tewksbury, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.⁽⁵⁶⁷⁾ Abigail was born 28 May 1724, in Billerica, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.⁽⁵⁶⁸⁾ Abigail was the daughter of Ephraim Kidder and Abigail Frost. They had nine children born in Tewksbury. One of them was stillborn.⁽⁵⁶⁹⁾

Abigail Hardy was born in Bradford, Essex County, Massachusetts 18 January 1717/8.⁽⁵⁷⁰⁾ She married Joseph Kidder, 6 September 1739, in Bradford, Essex County, Massachusetts.⁽⁵⁷¹⁾ The Kidder Genealogy says that Joseph Kidder, brother of Abigail Kidder who married Abigail Hardy's brother John, married a woman named Abigail, no surname given. This is probably Abigail Hardy but needs verification. If so, this Joseph was born 4 July 1714 in Billerica and died in Tewksbury 27 April 1771. His wife Abigail married second, in Tewksbury on 16 June 1774, Joshua Thompson. Joseph and Abigail had ten children.⁽⁵⁷²⁾

123 iv. Ruth Hardy was born in Bradford, Essex County, Massachusetts 14 June 1720.⁽⁵⁷³⁾ Ruth died after 4 March 1763.⁽⁵⁷⁴⁾ (The date of her father's will.) She married Thomas French, 6 February 1739/40, in Tewksbury, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.⁽⁵⁷⁵⁾

Nehemiah Hardy was born in Bradford, Essex County, Massachusetts 28 July 1722.⁽⁵⁷⁶⁾ Nehemiah died before December 1750.⁽⁵⁷⁷⁾ The Hardy Genealogy also states that administration of his estate was granted 27 February 1747/8. If so, why does it also say that he died before December 1750? He had no children.⁽⁵⁷⁸⁾

125 vi. Elisabeth Hardy was born in Bradford, Essex County, Massachusetts 26 January 1724/5.⁽⁵⁷⁹⁾ Elisabeth died after 4 March 1763.⁽⁵⁸⁰⁾ (The date of her father's will.) She married Benjamin Pike, 12 June 1745, in Tewksbury, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.⁽⁵⁸¹⁾

Benjamin was born 28 September 1723, in Newbury, Essex County, Massachusetts.⁽⁵⁸²⁾ Benjamin was the son of Joseph Pike and Lydia Drury. Benjamin died in 1803, in Amherst, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire.⁽⁵⁸³⁾ They settled in Dunstable (Amherst) and later moved to Bradford, Mass. He served in the Revolutionary War. They had eight children.⁽⁵⁸⁴⁾

126 vii. Nathaniel Hardy was born in Bradford, Essex County, Massachusetts 26 February 1726/7.⁽⁵⁸⁵⁾ Nathaniel died 21 or 25 October 1748, in Tewksbury, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.⁽⁵⁸⁶⁾ He had no children.⁽⁵⁸⁷⁾

127 viii. Mary Hardy was born in Billerica (now Tewksbury), Massachusetts 12 September 1729.⁽⁵⁸⁸⁾ Mary died before 15 October 1783.⁽⁵⁸⁹⁾ (The date her husband remarried.) She married William Hunt, 26 or 27 November 1755, in Tewksbury, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.⁽⁵⁹⁰⁾

William was born 26 May 1723, in Billerica, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.⁽⁵⁹¹⁾ William was the son of Jeremiah Hunt and Rebecca Ballard.

128 ix. Sarah Hardy was born in Tewksbury, Middlesex County, Massachusetts 23 July 1735.⁽⁵⁹²⁾ Sarah died after 4 March 1763.⁽⁵⁹³⁾ (The date of her father's will.) She married Dr. Nathaniel Cutler, 3 October 1759, in Tewksbury, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.⁽⁵⁹⁴⁾
