He married Helen P. Hitchcock, 13 June 1838.(2386) Helen was born 16 January 1817, in Rockingham, Windham County, Vermont.(2387) Helen was the daughter of Amos Hitchcock and Philenia Felt. Helen died 15 February 1901.(2388)

George moved to Claremont, N.H. at the age of 19, and resided there for the rest of his life. He was a machinist by trade, engaging in carriage ironing. Later in life he went into the grocery business which he pursued successfully for many years. Amidst a brief biography of his life and ancestry is an even longer piece on his wife's family.(2389) In 1840 his family in Claremont consisted of one male under 5, one male in his thirties, and two females in their twenties.(2390) The family was enumerated in the 1850 census of Claremont.
