14. Abigail2 Wallingford (Nicholas1) was born in Bradford, Essex County, Massachusetts 24 June 1680.(253) Abigail is deceased. Neither her death nor any remarriage for her appears in the Essex Co. vital records CD. The only possible death record that could pertain to her is the widow Caldwell who died in Ipswich, 23 July 1778(254) , at which time Abigail would be just shy of 98 years old.

She married Nathaniel Caldwell, in 1704, in Ipswich, Essex County, Massachusetts. No day or month is given in the published Ipswich records -- just the year 1704. Their marriage intention was filed on 19 February 1703.(255)

Nathaniel was born 18 October 1669, in Ipswich, Essex County, Massachusetts.(256) Nathaniel was the son of John Caldwell and Sarah Dillingham. Nathaniel died 13 December 1738, in Ipswich, Essex County, Massachusetts.(257) On 3 November 1709 Nathaniel was a signatory to a petition of the children of the late Nicholas Wallingford to the Massachusetts government. This petition is described in more detail under Nicholas' record.(258)

Nathaniel Caldwell was a weaver. Only one of their twelve children ever married, and that child didn't have any children of his own.(259)

Abigail Wallingford and Nathaniel Caldwell had the following children:

child 55 i. Abigail3 Caldwell was born probably in Ipswich, Mass. before 8 November 1705. She was baptized on that date in Ipswich.(260) Abigail died young. She must have died before their parents had another daughter Abigail in 1710.

child 56 ii. Nathaniel Caldwell was born in Ipswich, Essex County, Massachusetts in 1706/7.(261) The listing in the published Ipswich records reads: "21: ---: 1706-7". Evidently the month was illegible. Nathaniel died young, probably in Ipswich, Mass.. He must have died before his parents had another child in 1711.

child 57 iii. John Caldwell was born in Ipswich, Essex County, Massachusetts 19 September 1708.(262) ("19: 7m: 1708") John died of old age and a broken bone, 18 December 1792, in Ipswich, Essex County, Massachusetts, at 84 years of age.(263) This death record may be for a different John, but it said he was aged 85 and that is only off by a few months. He married twice.

He married first, Mercy Dunnel, after 7 January 1748, probably in Ipswich, Mass..(264) (The date of their intention.)

Mercy died 23 February 1783, in Ipswich, Essex County, Massachusetts.(265) He married second, Martha (-----) Foster, 30 November 1783, in Ipswich, Essex County, Massachusetts.(266) Martha was widowed from a man named Foster.

Martha died 10 August 1799.(267) John Caldwell had no children.(268)

child 58 iv. Abigail Caldwell was born in Ipswich, Essex County, Massachusetts 7 July 1710.(269) Abigail died 5 November 1810, in Ipswich, Essex County, Massachusetts. She must have died before her parents had another Abigail in 1713 so is likely to be the "infant child of Nathaniel" who died in Ipswich on this date.(270)

child 59 v. Nathaniel Caldwell was born in Ipswich, Essex County, Massachusetts 3 October 1711.(271) ("3: 8m: 1711") Nathaniel died 4 September 1733, in Ipswich, Essex County, Massachusetts.(272)

child 60 vi. Abigail Caldwell was born probably in Ipswich, Mass. before 22 June 1713. She was baptised in Ipswich on that date.(273) Abigail probably died young.(274)

child 61 vii. Sarah Caldwell was born in Ipswich, Essex County, Massachusetts 27 February 1715.(275) Sarah died 31 August 1733, in Ipswich, Essex County, Massachusetts.(276)

child 62 viii. Mary Caldwell was born in Ipswich, Essex County, Massachusetts 20 May 1717.(277) ("20: 3m: 1717") Mary died unmarried.(278)

child 63 ix. Anna Caldwell was born probably in Ipswich, Mass. before 23 August 1719. She was baptized on that date ("23: 6m: 1719") in Ipswich.(279) Anna died young.(280)

child 64 x. Martha Caldwell was born probably in Ipswich, Mass. before 11 June 1721. She was baptized on that date in Ipswich.(281) Martha died 30 May 1722, in Ipswich, Essex County, Massachusetts, at less than one year of age.(282)

child 65 xi. Elizabeth Caldwell was born probably in Ipswich, Mass. before 16 December 1722. She was baptized on that date ("16 x br: 1722") in Ipswich.(283) Is she the "unmarried" Elizabeth Caldwell who died in Ipswich in May 1752?(284)

child 66 xii. Hannah Caldwell was born probably in Ipswich, Mass. before 7 June 1724. She was baptized on that date in Ipswich.(285) Hannah died unmarried.(286)
