185. Mary5 Wallingford (Capt. Thomas4, Col. Thomas3, John2, Nicholas1) was born probably in Dover, New Hampshire 29 December 1750.(1536) A Goodwin genealogy gives a date of 18 Dec 1752.(1537) It is unknown where the author got that date. Mary died 21 May 1825. She was buried in the Old Fields Cemetery, East Side, Old Fields Road, North of Brattle Street in South Berwick, Maine.(1538) Another source, quoting her gravestone, gives 1 March 1825 as the date.(1539)

She married General Ichabod Goodwin, 25 May 1768.(1540) Ichabod Goodwin, Jr. of Berwick and Molly Wallingford of Tamworth, N.H. filed their intention of marriage in Berwick on 2 April 1768, and the intention was certified on 26 April.(1541) It seems unlikely that she would have been from Tamworth at the time, and one wonders if this might be an error for Somersworth, where her family was from.

Ichabod was born 14 May 1743, in Berwick, York County, Maine.(1542) Ichabod was the son of Capt. Ichabod Goodwin and Elizabeth Scammon. Ichabod died 25 or 27 May 1829, in South Berwick, York County, Maine.(1543) He was buried in the Old Fields Cemetery, East Side, Old Fields Road, North of Brattle Street in South Berwick, Maine. Ichabod was a farmer, and a member of the Provincial Congress in 1775. A Lieutenant Colonel in the Revolutionary War, he became a Major General of the 6th Division, Massachusetts Militia in 1787. He was a High Sheriff of York County.(1544) They lived in the part of Berwick that is now South Berwick, Maine. On 28 April 1813 Ichabod Goodwin of Berwick, Esquire, and Molly his wife, "in her right" sold for $62.50 to Charles Cushing of Berwick, merchant, her share of the homestead of the late Thomas Wallingford of Somersworth that was set off to his widow Elizabeth. The land descended to Molly through her father Thomas Wallingford, son of the first Thomas.(1545)

Mary Wallingford and General Ichabod Goodwin had the following children:

child 326 i. Ichabod6 Goodwin was born probably in Berwick, Maine 1 June 1770.(1546) Ichabod died 23 June 1814. He was buried in the Old Fields Cemetery, East Side, Old Fields Road, North of Brattle Street in South Berwick, Maine.(1547) He married Anna Nancy Thompson, 21 March 1802, in Berwick, York County, Maine.(1548) (See NEHGR 83:16)

Anna was born about 1776. (Gravestone)

Anna died 23 May 1818. She was buried in the Old Fields Cemetery, East Side, Old Fields Road, North of Brattle Street in South Berwick, Maine.(1549) They lived in the part of Berwick that is now South Berwick, Maine and had at least three children.(1550)

child 327 ii. Thomas Wallingford Goodwin was born probably in Berwick, Maine 25 May 1772.(1551) Thomas died unmarried, 25 January 1822, at 49 years of age. He was buried in the Old Fields Cemetery, East Side, Old Fields Road, North of Brattle Street in South Berwick, Maine.(1552)

child 328 iii. Betsey Goodwin was born in Berwick, York County, Maine 26 July 1774.(1553) Betsey died in 1790.(1554)

child 329 iv. Abigail Goodwin was born in Berwick, York County, Maine 2 March 1777.(1555) Abigail died 27 May 1851. She was buried in the Old Fields Cemetery, East Side, Old Fields Road, North of Brattle Street in South Berwick, Maine.(1556) She married Major William Hight, 1 January 1797, in Berwick, York County, Maine.(1557) (See NEHGR 83:16)

William was born 13 October 1773.(1558) William was the son of Temple Hight and Sarah Goodwin. William died 18 April 1847. He was buried in the Old Fields Cemetery, East Side, Old Fields Road, North of Brattle Street in South Berwick, Maine.(1559)

child 330 v. Hannah Goodwin was born in Berwick, York County, Maine 21 December 1778.(1560) Hannah died 14 October 1820. She was buried with her parents in the Old Fields Cemetery, East Side, Old Fields Road, North of Brattle Street in South Berwick, Maine.(1561) She married Josiah W. Seaver, 29 May 1809?, in Berwick, York County, Maine.(1562) Maine Families in 1790, 2:107, says that she married 29 May 1804 Joseph N. Seaver, and gives as its source NEHGR 83:16) The Goodwin Genealogy calls him Joseph W. Seaver, and says that he was a preceptor of Berwick Academy.(1563) He is called Josiah on his wife's tombstone.

child 331 vi. Mary Goodwin was born 21 November 1779.(1564) Her gravestone says she was daughter of General Ichabod, and was aged 31, which doesn't correlate at all with the date of birth reported by the Goodwin Genealogy. Could the earlier Mary have died young and a later Mary, born about 1799, have died in 1831? Mary died, unmarried, on 28 March 1831, at 51 years of age. She was buried with her parents in the Old Fields Cemetery, East Side, Old Fields Road, North of Brattle Street in South Berwick, Maine.(1565)

child 332 vii. Major Andrew Goodwin was born in Berwick, York County, Maine 7 May 1784.(1566) Andrew died 4 or 14 November 1843. Maine Families in 1790 states that he died 14 March 1832(1567) , and the Goodwin Genealogy gives a date of 14 November 1843(1568). A date of 4 November 1843 comes from a cemetery record in the Old Fields Cemetery, East Side, Old Fields Road, North of Brattle Street in South Berwick, Maine. The Major Andrew Goodwin buried there, aged 60, is immediately after the entry for Elizabeth Wallingford, wife of Andrew Goodwin.(1569) The discrepancy between 4 and 14 November is probably a typo on the part of one of the sources, but the 1832 date is a mystery. He married first, Betsey Thompson, 8 or 25 December 1814, in South Berwick, York County, Maine.(1570)

Betsey was born about 1785. (Age at death was 32.)

Betsey died 10 June 1817.(1571) He married second his first cousin Elizabeth Wallingford, daughter of his mother's brother John Wallingford. See her record for more information and a continuation of his line. He had no children by his first wife.(1572)

child 333 viii. Sarah Goodwin was born in Berwick, York County, Maine 9 November 1786.(1573) Sarah died 13 May 1870. She was buried in the Old Fields Cemetery, East Side, Old Fields Road, North of Brattle Street in South Berwick, Maine. As her name was Goodwin on the stone she presumably never married.(1574) [The Goodwin Genealogy reports a date of May 14.]

child 334 ix. Olive Elizabeth Goodwin was born in Berwick, York County, Maine 23 June 1789.(1575) Olive died in 1791.(1576)

child 335 x. Dominicus Goodwin was born in Berwick, York County, Maine 29 May 1791.(1577) Dominicus died unmarried, 21 September 1814. He was buried in the Old Fields Cemetery, East Side, Old Fields Road, North of Brattle Street in South Berwick, Maine.(1578)

child 336 xi. They had seven children.(1584)
