He married Ann Linklater, 22 June 1793, in the parish of Evie & Rendall, Orkney Islands, Scotland.⁽²¹²⁾ Ann was born 24 November 1769, in Evie, Orkney Islands, Scotland.⁽²¹³⁾ Ann was the daughter of Magnus Linklater and Margaret Smith. Ann died of "natural decay", 8 November 1857, on Victoria St., in Kirkwall, Orkney Islands, Scotland, at 87 years of age.⁽²¹⁴⁾

Robert Johnston and Ann Linklater had the following child:

2 i. Margaret² Johnston was born in Evie, Orkney Islands, Scotland ca. 1802.⁽²¹⁵⁾ Margaret died probably in the Orkney Islands of Scotland. She married William Craigie, 26 November 1829, in Kirkwall, Orkney Islands, Scotland.⁽²¹⁶⁾ William was born ca. 1810, on the island of Gairsay, parish of Evie and Rendall, Orkney Islands, Scotland.⁽²¹⁷⁾ William was the son of William Craigie and Margaret Shearer. William died 22 September 1892, at home, Hesticrow, in the parish of St. Andrews, Orkney Islands, Scotland, at 82 years of age.⁽²¹⁸⁾ (See William Craigie for the continuation of this line.)
