Seventh Generation

9. Allen T.7 Hamblen (Enoch6, Timothy5, Gershom4, Ebenezer3, John2, James1) was born in Maine 8 August 1807.(177) According to the death record of his son Allen he was born in Baldwin, Maine. Allen died 1888, at 80 years of age.(178)

He married Hannah Jackson Wentworth, after 15 December 1838, probably in Baldwin, Maine.(179) This was the date of their marriage intention in Baldwin. I have a date of 3 June 1840 written in my records but didn't record the source. Could it be the Wentworth Genealogy?

Hannah was born 2 July 1821, in Baldwin, Cumberland County, Maine.(180) Hannah was the daughter of John Wentworth and Martha Jackson. Hannah died about 1869?, probably in Cambridge, Mass.. Allen was chosen as one of eleven field drivers and fence viewers in the town of Baldwin, Maine in 1839, but didn't appear in the town records, at least in any obvious place, in the years following so perhaps moved back to Gorham. The History of Gorham states that he was a cooper in Gorham. In the 1860 census of Gorham was one Allen T. Hamblen, aged 53, a labourer born in Maine and living on the farm of Charles T. Roberts. No other Hamblens were living with him and the rest of his family couldn't be located in Gorham. There were other Allens in the Gorham area, according to the History of Gorham (but none in the census), but none that would have been 53 in that year as our Allen would. Eight years later his wife is recorded in Cambridge, Mass. so could they perhaps have been divorced? The History of Gorham states that Allen died in 1888. Need to check the 1870 and 1880 censuses of Gorham to see if he is still there.

Allen T. Hamblen and Hannah Jackson Wentworth had the following children:

child 10 i. Allen T.8 Hamblen was born in Gorham, Cumberland County, Maine 27 November 1839. Allen died of a perinephritic abscess, 16 February 1911, at the Soldier's Home, in Chelsea, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, at 71 years of age.(181) He was buried in Forest Dale Cemetery in Malden on February 18th. He married Unknown. There was an Allen T. Hamblen, aged 21, born in Gorham, son of Allen and Harriet Hamblen, who married in Cambridge, Mass. on Feb 15, 1866 Lizzie M. Young, aged 20, born in Cambridge, daughter of John and Maria Young. (Mass VR, Marriages, 1866, v190, p.117, no.57). As he would have been born in 1844 and our Allen was born in 1839, this is unlikely to be the same person.

child 11 ii. Ellen Hamblen was born about 1840.

child 12 iii. Mary E. Hamblen was born about 1842.

child 13 iv. Martha G. Hamblen was born in Gorham, Cumberland County, Maine about January 1844.(182) Martha died of heart disease, 25 August 1913, at home, 235 Harvard St., in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, at 69 years of age.(183) She married Moss Aaron, about 1863, possibly in Maine. Moss was born about 16 August 1838, in London, England.(184) Moss was the son of Barney Aaron and Phoebe Lee. Moss died 24 December 1902, in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, at 64 years of age.(185) (See Moss Aaron for the continuation of this line.)

child 14 v. Cyrus Hamblen was born about 1846.

child 15 vi. Alma Hamblen was born about 1848.
