BIOGRAPHY: James Frank Cole participated in the land run of Oklahoma in 1892. In an old Chronicles of Oklahoma, Augusta I.C. Metcalfe, the self-taught lady artist from Durham, wrote about her life in Indian Territory of OK. She mentions neighbors with the Shaws who sang Home on the Range, the first time she had ever heard that song...It goes on and says "Frank Cole and his young wife, Genie lived a little over a mile down the river. She was good company and full of life."

BIOGRAPHY: Edward McGlothlin and Frank Cole went to the Run of 1892, that opened up the Cheyenne Territory in west Oklahoma, and put a claim to 160 acres of land along the Washita river. Source: Edward Glen McGlothlin web site (See source list for citation and full text).

BIOGRAPHY: Almost forty-six years ago Frank Cole and his bride, Miss Eugenia Humphrey, traveled over roads which were very likely little more than cow trails to the claim which he had staked in the memorable Run, and on which
he had erected a substantial one room residence 16 feet square, built of logs that grew on the banks of the Washita River nearby. By industry and thrift in the course of time the log home, which had already been doubled in size by the addition of a lumber room, was replaced with the spacious residence in which the family now live.  There is an old adage that says, "A friend in need is a friend indeed."  The writer here is is one among the many that knows that Frank was such a friend.
