This site is dedicated to all the family members that have an appreciation for tracing their “roots” and an appreciation of knowing “where” they came from. For the Italian “roots,” this site concentrates on towns in the Province of Cosenza in the southern part of Italy – Marano Principato, Rende, Celico, and Piane Crati. A portion of the Cosenza map is featured on the Special Places page. Upon immigrating to the United States during the first part of the 20th century, many of these Italian ancestors settled in Chicago, Illinois and Kenosha, Wisconsin and for which I have particular interest. Also featured in Special Places is Taylor Street and Kenosha, WI. In addition, you will find the surnames affiliated with these areas of Italy:
Feel free to browse and visit often. Each family has a variety of interesting family information that I have researched and collected since beginning a family tree in 1976 on shelf paper for a biology class. The Marano Principato Page contains the indices of the civil records for this town from the 1800's and early 1900's. Several pages are devoted to the history, culture and links and resources. Visit Recipes for traditional Italian recipes and Resources and Links for links to sites focused on Chicago, Italy, genealogy and Wisconsin. Future planning for pages devoted to the Hungarian Family Roots with surnames that include Borka, Berecz, Haris, and Malik – from the towns of Pécs, Dunaföldvár, and Lajosmizse, Hungary. SPECIAL THANKS to Jeff Caracci, my third cousin, from the Cairo Family Tree, who is serving as webmaster for this website. He has an outstanding website that also includes Tenuta family information. It was through a related Maranese website that I met Jeff. Lisa Perkins is the webmaster for the Marano Marchesato website. Most of all, many thanks to the many family members who have contributed to the photo sections – it really makes a difference! To get started, click on one of the buttons to the left. Since this website will always be a work in process, check the "What's New" section where I will chronicle any new additions to the website.
