TEESDALE HERALDRY RESEARCH
"The only coat-of-arms of the surname " Teesdale" recorded in Burke's General Armory (1884) is a distinctively military device:
ARGENT; A THISTLE PROPER, BETWEEN THREE PHEONS AZURE.
Crest: AN ARM IN ARMOR EMBOWED, HOLDING BY THE BLADE A SWORD, POINT DOWNWARDS, PROPER.
Another Crest: AN ARM IN ARMOR EMBOWED, COUPED FESSWAYS, HOLDING A SCEPTRE PROPER.
The Tisdalls of Charlesfort,County Meath, Ireland, bore (coat-of-arms):
SABLE, A THISTLE OR, BETWEEN THREE PHEONS, POINTS DOWN ARGENT.
Crest: OUT OF A DUCAL CORONET OR, AN ARMED ARM ERECT, HOLDING IN THE HAND AN ARROW ALL PROPER.
Motto: Tutantur tela coronam
(Weapons Guard A Crown).
The Striking similarity between these three types of armorial bearings is indicative of identical origin and collateral kinship, but whether other families of similar surname are entitled to bear them is problematical".
