Robert Nelson, (1725-1804), was a patriot who sacrificed his property in the Juniata Valley, Pa., to alleviate the hardships of the army. He located in Columbus, Ohio, on land given him by the government to reëmburse him for provisions and money used at Valley Forge. He died in Bowling Green, Ky., at the home of his son.
David Nelson, (1750-1829), was a lieutenant in the Fourth Battalion of Associators of Cumberland County at Valley Forge. He was born near Mifflintown, Pa.; died in Columbus, Ohio.
James Crawford served as a private in the Massachusetts militia and as a marine on the "Boston" and "Scourge." He died, 1838, in Reynoldsburg, Ohio.
William MacIntire served as paymaster at Forts Henry and Shepherd and was quartermaster in the Coschocton campaign, 1781, against the Indians on the Mukingum. He was killed, 1792, on an expedition against the Miami Indians.
David Shepherd, (1734-95), held the offices of justice, high sheriff, lieutenant of Ohio County and colonel of militia, at the same time, in 1777, and performed the varied duties in a dangerous part of the county with great bravery and satisfaction to his superior officers. His valuable letters and reports preserved in the archives of Wisconsin give the history and warfare [p.218] of the wllderness. He was born in Shepherdstown; died in Fort Shepherd and is buried on land which he bequeathed on Wheeling Creek, West Virginia.
