Asahel apparently served in the Revolution at the time of the Battle of Wyoming in 1778, during which a large number of settlers lost their lives, among them probably Jonathan. Asahel moved to Tioga County in New York with his stepfather, possibly Manasseh Cady. He returned to Connecticut in 1790 to take a bride, Mary Stedman, settling with her in Flemingville, Tioga County. He was apparently something of a free spirit, hiring others to do the work of the farm while he was off hunting in the wilderness. That Sylvester Prichard was his grandson is likely, but unproven at this time.
