However, according to testimony given in divorce court for Jane Taylor and her husband Lewis Taylor in 1874, Jane's mother Susan testified that Thomas Stinson was the father of Jane. They were married on 10 July 1857 at residence of George H Ewell by George H Ewell. John's parents were named as Thomas (of William) and Nancy. Susan's mother was listed as Betsey Taylor. Alfred J Taylor said both were over 21 years of age. In divorce court for Jane Taylor and Lewis Taylor in 1874, Jane's mother Susan Taylor said that she and her husband John James were first cousins.
