New York, July 13. - Four transports arrived here today from Brest with 16,000 troops, the Cap Finitsere bringing 2976; the cruiser Pueblo, 1689; the cruiser St. Louis, 1483, and the imperator, 9452.

The wedding will take place at her grandmother's, Mrs. Jane C. Mateer, 101 West Main street during August. Both have very recently returned from service in France.

Freight Wreck at Ripley.
RIPLEY, Sep. 2. - Half a dozen freight cars were derailed and a section of track 200 yards in length was torn up in a freight wreck on the New York Central railroad yesterday morning about 10:30 o'clock. The wreck occurred while the train was passing through this village and was caused by the breaking of a spring on one of the freight cars.

The harvesting of early grapes started this morning, a few Worden's and Moore's Early being taken off. The harvesting of Concords will commence within the next week or ten days. Where vineyards have been well cultivated there is a good crop and the quality is above the average. A price of $125 a ton is expected for the first pickings of Concords.

Emmett C. Nixon, late of the village of Westfield. Total amount of property transferred is $76,999.84. Of this amount Sam F. Nixon, a nephew of decedent, received $22,437.46 and pays a tax of $1,121.87; George R. Nixon, a nephew, and Dorothy F. Griffis and Edith C. Nixon, nieces of decedent, each receive $18,187.46, and each pays a tax of $909.37. In addition to the above specific taxes upon bequests to individuals, the estate is taxable under section 231-B of article 15 of the tax law as amended by the laws of 1917, upon certain mortgages listed in the report of the appraiser, amounting to $27,554.26, and the tax assessed thereon is $1,377.77.

Mrs. Jane Mateer, of Oak Street, celebrated the 90th anniversary of her birth on Sunday. She is very active, in possession of all her faculties and able to look after her home duties. On Saturday a number of her friends gave her a pleasant surprise.

Mrs. Jane Mateer, who is ninety years of age, fell last week Tuesday night while going up stairs to bed. She was carrying a soap stone. She was badly bruised and her head was cut, but no bones were broken. Her daughter Mrs. Wright of Buffalo, is caring for her and at the present writing she is slightly improved. Her many friends hope for her a speedy recoq[v]ery.

She was sitting in Rocker when Rob got down & says she only fell 3 or 4 steps. heart probably cause - also cold"
