Jan Lawson Notes

Subject: Robinson Genealogy Notes

Date: February 15, 2001

Hi Ronnie,

Forgot to send this to you earlier.

I have identified who I believe to be the parents and siblings of Charles
N. Robinson who married Sarah Barham in Stokes Co., NC. 9-8-1806.

Father:  Jacob Robinson b. ? bef. 1745 d. 1820 Stokes Co., NC.
Mother:  Rebeccah ? b. ? bef. 1745 d. ?

Siblings:

Edward Robinson b. 1776-1777 (minor in 1796) believed to have died before
1800 Stokes Co., NC.  *Note: 1.)  Edward cited and identified as minor son
of Jacob Robinson in deed re: PofA to Jacob Robinson by heirs of Andrew
Arnett for sale of land, 1796 Dec. 1 (Stokes Co., NC. Deed Book 4, pg.
38).  *Note:  Reason for believing  that Edward Robinson  probably died
before 1800 in Stokes Co., NC. is as follows.  The land purchased by Jacob
Robinson for minor sons Edward and Littleberry was made by PofA 12-1-1796,
meaning that on this date neither Edward nor Littleberry was 21 years of
age.  This land was subsequently sold (at least 100 acres of it) to
Littleberry Robinson in 1800.  No deed transmission on this land was found
from Jacob Robinson to Edward Robinson and no mention of any Edward
Robinson was found in the Deed records after 1796.

son of Jacob Robinson in deed re: PofA to Jacob Robinson by heirs of Andrew
Arnett for sale of land, 1796 Dec. 1, (Stokes Co., NC. Deed Book 4, pg.
38).  *Note: 2.) Littleberry  cited in Deeds with Jacob Robinson in Stokes
Co., NC.  I have extensive information on this family if anyone interested.

I have requested Real Estate Grantee and Grantor Indexes for Surry Co., NC.
along with Wills for the following surnames: Robinson (and variant
spellings), Graham, Fair (and variant spellings), Campbell, Guinn, McKillip
and Crews.  Maybe I will be able to trace Jacob Robinson and also find out
what his wife's maiden name was.

Other Robinsons in Stokes Co., NC. on 1790 census were Andrew Robinson,
John Robinson and William Robinson (listed as Robison as was Jacob). Andrew
continued in Stokes Co. until his death in 1816.   His wife identified as
Mary Polly ? with children identified as Agness Stuart Robinson Studdard,
wife of William Studdard; Isabella Robinson Gibson, wife of Robert B.
Gibson; Andrew and Mary (apparently minors at the time of his death - Mary
still unmarried in 1822). Mary Polly ? might have be a 2nd wife as there
appears to be a gap in ages between Isabella and Andrew.  *Note:  the land
sold by Jacob Robinson to Littleberry Robinson was the same land that
Andrew Arnett had purchased from Andrew Robinson, Esq. and Christian
Nations.  This is the only time any of the above Robinsons are mentioned in
the same deed.  William no longer in census records after 1790.  John in
Stokes Co. until 1806 and then in Pendleton District, SC.  John Robinson,
at least, seems to have been associated with the ROBINSON, MEAN, DAVID and
CAMPBELL families in Bedford and Campbell Cos., VA., and might be the
brother of James Robinson in Bedford Co., VA. and Elizabeth (Robinson)
Mean, who's husband Robert died in Rockingham Co., NC. in 1822.

Right now I have sparse notes on Jacob, but lengthy notes on Littleberry
and Charles.  This material was not included in the Robinson section of the
book I did for my Mom because I didn't have it at the time.  Would be glad
to e-mail my notes to anyone who is interested.  Also, additional
information has been added to Charles' children's files.  Would be glad to
share with anyone interested.
