Obituary--Prattville Progress, September 1934: Peter James "Jimmy" Tatum (July 12, 1850-Sept 12, 1934), son of Thomas and Martha "Patsy" Martin Tatum "Uncle Jimmie" Tatum Answers His Last Call Another of Autauga County's oldest citizens has answered the call to the Great Beyond. "Uncle Jimmie" Tatum, 84, died at the home of his grandson, Paul Tatum, in beat 10, Thursday morning of last week. Mr. Tatum, who is spite of his advanced age, had remained active, became ill Sunday night before his death. Wednesday, however, he appeared much better and enjoyed dinner and supper with his grandchildren. He retired Wednesday night in excellent spirits, but at 2 o'clock the next morning grew suddenly worse, and died before medical aid could be summoned. The deceased was born near what is now Stony Point on July 12, 1850, and had spent his entire life in that section. His wife, who was Martha Frances Scott, daughter of A. J. Scott once pastor of the Pine Level church, died ten years ago. Four sons, Messrs. Eph (Epps); J. Lewis; John and A. J.; one daughter Miss Kate Tatum, and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren survive. Funeral services were held at the Pine Level church Friday afternoon, with Rev. H. L. Tate officiating. Burial was in the Pine Level cemetery with the Verbena Masonic Lodge in charge. |

Obituary--Prattville Progress March 1891 (William died March 11, 1891, Autauga Co,AL) "Death of Mr. William Tatum: On night of the 11th quietly the spirit of Mr. Wm. Tatum winged its way beyond the scenes of the transitory abode. Mr. Tatum lived about ten miles north of Prattville near Pine Level church. A few days ago he celebrated his ninety ninth birthday. He was born in Virginia, March 4, 1792 and when thirty years old he moved to this county where he has lived ever since. He was a devout member of the church and a Christian man. But want of space will not permit us to go in details of his life and death. Surely the pearly gates of the Celestial City will open wide for him whose life on earth was ever devoted to aiding the weak, to lightening the burdens of others, to bringing their souls nearer to their God, and who caused most smiles and fewest frowns." |
