Edward JOHNSON immigrated in 1630 to Charlestown, MA. Captain Edward
Johnson came with Governor Winthrop in 1630. He returned to England to
bring the rest of his family, a wife and seven children, three servants,
arriving in 1636. He was a founder of the church of Woburn, MA, a representative
from 1643-1671, speaker in 161656, and Town Clerk for 30 years. He died
on 23 Apr 1672 in Woburn, MA. He was born Reign of James I of England in
Herne Hill, Canterbury, England.

Eleazer
Waterous JOHNSON was born on 25 Dec 1811 in Burlington, VT. He died
on 8 Jan 1858. Eleazer Johnson never married, though he had been engaged.
He traveled much in his relatively short life. Many of his effects were
in possession of his sister Angeline and survive among family members.
He was a graduate engineer like his father and uncle.
A book made up from pictures taken or collected on a trip to Europe, his book of world facts, a diary of his disastrous stint on a ship bound for the gold rush in California and some letters from Eleazer to his sister are among the items. His letters are quite informative.
An oil portrait of Eleazer hung in the Wisdom house at 334 Vasar Avenue, Swarthmore for more than 50 years. It was probably brought to the house by Harriet Andrews Hoskins Preston, mother of Edith Preston Wisdom. Harriet lived in the house for a number of years.

Eleazer was fourth-born to Sarah and Jesse
but it wasn't his fault he'd just as leave been first.
Teachers at his school wanted him to study.
Eleazer wasn't to blame for making class so boring.
E.W., as he was known ,became engaged to Beacham, E.
She called it off after years of waiting.
In a letter to his sister, he proceeded to explain,
it was on E.'s head for listening to poison.
Gold field bound on a side-wheel steamer,
his engine failed and a huge storm blew.
When they reached San Diego after 52 days,
his conscience was clear 'cause he'd told them so.
E.W. served as engineer in a Mariposa mine,
designed and built with red wood trees.
His father complained that he didn't write often.
Eleazer knew the lack was the postal system.
He loved the machines, totaling up huge output.
Last heard from he was king of a power mill.
I lost the trail of this blameless virtue,
but Eleazer isn't liable for my missed clues.
