The Wisdom/Kroon Family

Samuel WISDOM was born between 1800 and 1810 in Ireland. He died between 1844 and 1850 in PHILA PA. Samuel Wisdom appears for the first time in the PA federal census in 1820, aged between 16-26, married with two daughters. Phila. City Directory lists Samuel Wisdom as a carpenter living at 8 Knight's Court, Phila. for the years 1823 and 24. The 1830 PA federal census lists Samuel as 30-40, wife 30-40, and one son between 5-10 years old, three daughters--one less than 5, one 5-10, and one 10-20. 1840 census shows the addition of a son under 5 and a duaghter under 5 also. The Phila. City directory 1843 shows W. A. Wisdom, farrier living at 216 S. 4th St. and Samuel M. Wisdom, carpenter living at 142 S. 4th St. Wm. is listed in 1842 as well, but living at 151 Catharine St. in 1842 Morris McNamee, a black and white smith has his home at 216 S. 4th St. This is probably a relation of Hannah McNamee Glakins Wisdom. Possibly the reason for moving back to Phila. area for two year period.

1850 PA federal census shows Susan Wisdom a widow living with two of her daughters--Margaret, age 22 and Susan, age 20. Her son Wm. is living around the corner. Parents: William or Samuel WISDOM and Unknown UNKNOWN.

Samuel Culbert WISDOM (photo) was born on 1 Jul 1875 in Wilmington, DE. He died on 10 Sep 1949 in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania. Parents: Richard Haywood Budd WISDOM and Hester Ann MCGOWAN.

He was married to Edith Cheyney PRESTON on 15 Oct 1902 in Philadelphia, PA. Children were: David Preston WISDOM, Samuel Culbert, Junior WISDOM .

He was a Blacksmith until Civil War when became Veterinary Surgeon between 1810 and 1873 in New York NY, Southold, L.I., NY, and Wilmington, DE. He was buried in 1873 in Brandywine And, Wilmington Cem. He died on 11 Mar 1873 in Wilmington, DE. · New York City Directories show William Wisdom in NYC in 1829. He is not there in 1830 (he's in Philadelphia marrying Hannah for part of that year) and then in residence in NYC at six different locations from 1831 to 1841. The 1829 NY City city directory lists William as a blacksmith, with a business address only. City Directories from 1830-1842 list Wm as a blacksmith, working at 40 Duane St NYC and residing on Augustus, Mott, Elm, & Cross Streets. A son Samuel died 20 Feb1841 age 14 and Wm.'s first wife, Rebecca, died later.
There are certificates showing that William Wisdom served in the National Guards in New York during his ten year residence. He was a Captain in National Guards, the Light Infantry, and the Artillery. He was in Delaware 1861 as Captain of Co "B" Home guards of Wilmington.
Philadelphia City Directories do not have William Wisdom in residence in 1830, but show him there in 1842 and 1843. In 1842 he lived on Catharine Street, a year later he was living on South 4th street. Also in 1843, Samuel M. Wisdom lives a block away on South 4th Street. The 1840 Census shows Samuel Wisdom in Philadelphia with what is probably his wife and 6 children--a boy under 5 and one between 15 and 20; 4 girls ages distributed between under 5, 5-10, 10-15 and 15-20. The 1850 Census has a Susan Wisdom and two daughters, all three tailors, the right ages to be widow and 2 of the children of Samuel.
· The 1850 Census for New York lists the Wisdom family in Suffolk County Long Island, New York. Their whereabouts are unknown between 1843 and 1850.
· Federal Census data from 1860 and 1870 indicate that Richard and Hester Wisdom were living in Delaware by 1857. The 1860 household consisted of William, Hannah, Richard, Hester, their daughters Nelly and Meagie (Margret by G'Dad's note), and two other blacksmiths--James McManus and Patrick Brogan. Brogran (?). In 1870 Richard is a police officer, Maggie has died, but William, Clara and Charles A. have been born.
· Cemetery record from Wilmington and Brandywine cemetery in Wilmington showed the death of William A. Wisdom in 1873 and the death of Hannah in 1875.
· The cemetery records recorded by DPW 11/13/1980, show the burial plot also contained the following people in the 1800's
· Sarah Teas died 1/8/1848 at the age of 32.
· Charles Wisdom died 5/28/1853 at the age of 16 [assume this is Charles M., son of William and Hannah.]
· Maggie Wisdom died 12/18/1860 at the age of 2
· Elizaban Wisdom died 9/19/61 at the age of 19 appears as Eliza in 1850 census but wherewas she in 1860?
· Emily H. McNamee died 10/14/1863
· William A. Wisdom died 3/11/73 at the age of 70
· John McNamee and Margaret Bark 5/27/73 removed from Mutual Cemetery in Philadelphia and reburied here.
· Wisdom stillborn nameless died 7/23/1874
· Hannah Wisdom died 12/13/1875 at the age of 73
· Mary E. Wynn died 4/8/1889 at the age of 48.
A deed for half of a burial plot in Wilmington shows transfer from Joseph Teas to Wm. Wisdom. Samuel C. Wisdom's notes list Ellen Teas McGowan as (unspecified how) relative. Richard's wife's mother??
1850 Census record for John McNamee, born in Delaware, living in the Kensington section of Philadelphia, age 43 is a blacksmith with wife Margaret McNamee, age 33 born in Ireland. [Is this the couple buried in cemetery plot? Bodies moved from Mutual Cemetery in Philadelphia to Wilmington in 1873. She's listed as Margaret Bark--maiden name?]
One Charles McNamee family in New Castle Co. Delaware 1800 census. There were 2 males under 10, one 26-45 with one female under 10, one 16-26 and one 26-45 years old.
There are two Charles McNamees in 1810 Delaware census one family is just a young male and ederly female; other has a family of 5 males under 10, 2 between 10-16, one 16-26, one over 45years and one daughter under 10, one 10-16, one 26-45 female..
1820 Delaware census still shows two Charles McNamees, first with 2 males under 10, male between 26-45, one over 45; females were one 26-45 and one over 45. Second family had 2 sons 10-16, a male 26-45 (could be over 45--need to check) one daughter under 10, one 10-16 one 16-26, one over 45. No unnaturalized people listed.
1830 Delaware census has one Charles McNamee family with 2 males 20-30 and 1 60-70 years; the females are 15-20, 20-30, 40-50, and 50-60 years.
Phila. City Directory 1842 lists a blacksmith Charles McNamee at 14 Sugar Alley. Also a Morris McNamee a black and white smith on Shippen near 3rd, whose home is 216 S. 4th street. Same address as Wm. A. Wisdom.

He was married to HANNAH McNamee GLACKIN on 1 May 1830 in Southwark, Philadelphia, Pa, Presbyterian. Marriage certificate in possession of Miriam Wisdom Kroon, as of March, 1997.
Children were: CHARLES WISDOM, ELIZABETH WISDOM, Richard Haywood Budd WISDOM , William Alexander WISDOM.

William or Samuel WISDOM was born 1780 (approx) in Ireland. This is assumption, since Samuel and Wm., two of his sons were born in Ireland. It is believed that he came from Northern Ireland.. His Grandchildren were named Wm. and Margret --first-born sons in two families, first-born daughters in two families. This is supposition as to name, age and marriage.

There is a Wm. Wisdom living in Phila. 1796-1800 with wife Ann. He is a taylor. They are listed together in 1800 Phila. City Directory as taylors living at 14 S. Water St.
Contrary indicators: Ann and Wm. Wisdom disappear from City directory after 1800 and there was a Wm. Wisdom buried in 1798 in St. Paul's Church & Churchyard, Phila. on Front St.

1800 PA federal census shows a Wm. Wisdom in Phila.

1810 PA federal census has Wm. Wisdom household with two sons under 10, one 10-16 two males 16-26, one over 45, presumably Wm. One woman between 26-45, presumably his wife.

He was married to Unknown UNKNOWN in 1800 in Ireland. Assumption, since children born in Ireland. Children were: WILLIAM A WISDOM, Samuel WISDOM, WISDOM.

Hester WISWELL

She was married to Honorable William JOHNSON on 16 May 1655 in Woburn, MA or Dorchester, MA. Children were: Ebenezer JOHNSON.

Sarah WORKMAN died in 1859 in Ohio.

She was married to Jesse BUCY on 12 Aug 1856 in Shanesville, Tuscarawa Co., Ohio.

Jessie YEOMANS (?) was born in 1861 in England. She died in 1926 in Grand Forks, ND. Have guessed with little support that the death notice that was in the Brunskill Bible for Margaret Yeomans who died in Temple Sowerby, England was the mother of Jessie Brunskill. Parents: Thomas YEOMANS (?) and Margaret UNKNOWN.

Children were: William John BRUNSKILL, Margaret May BRUNSKILL, Frederick Stanley BRUNSKILL, Jessie BRUNSKILL, George Edward BRUNSKILL, Robert BRUNSKILL.

Augustus J. ZALMAN was born on 9 Apr 1870 in Shelby ILL. Parents: HENRY ZALMAN and Hunigunde (Kunigunter) EuniceCora BAUER.

Bertha ZALMAN was born on 1 Aug 1883 in Stewardson ILL. She was christened on 4 May 1909 in MAR. JACK, BUTTLES. She died on 25 Feb 1957 in Julesburg Co. She was buried in Julesburg Ceme. Parents: Godfreid ZALMAN and Anna P. BARTH.

CHARLES ZALMAN was born on 8 Jul 1852 in New York NY. He died on 1 Jun 1920 in Nebraska. He was buried on 3 Jun 1920 in Red Cloud, NE. Parents: HENRY ZALMAN and Hunigunde (Kunigunter) EuniceCora BAUER.

Godfreid ZALMAN was born on 8 Apr 1860 in Cook Co. ILL. He died on 6 Oct 1937 in Stewardson ILL. He was buried on 7 Oct 1937 in Big Sprgs Cem., Deuel Co. GODFREY came to Duell Co 1893 & took up homestead 6.5 miles north of Big Springs. Had one team of horses, then one died so they got a team of mules. They sold butter @ 10 cents a pound, used buffalo chips for fuel. Raised 6 children, worked hard and later built a new house (1928) 1.5 miles NE of the homestead. HENRY ZALMAN was born on 19 Nov 1819 in Bavaria. He was christened on 20 Sep 1887 in US Citizenship. He died on 7 Nov 1900 in Shelby Co Ill.

He was married to Hunigunde (Kunigunter) EuniceCora BAUER in 1846 in Bavaria Germ.. Children were: CHARLES ZALMAN, GEORGE ZALMAN, HENRY D. ZALMAN , Godfreid ZALMAN, Louis ZALMAN , Fredrick ZALMAN, MARY ZALMAN , Augustus J. ZALMAN.
