He was very active in the Masonic Lodge, having attained the coveted and extremely rare 33rd Degree. In his last years, being nearly blind, he was employed by the Binghamton Lodge as custodian. He was killed in a fall down the elevator shaft at the Masonic Temple on 25 Apr 1919. As a young single man he traveled with the circus as a fife & Drum corps leader, and was nearly all over the world. Parents: Richard Haywood Budd WISDOM and Hester Ann MCGOWAN .

· Certificate of Marriage for Richard Wisdom and Hester A. McGowan 3/4/1856 in Philadelphia, signed Sabin Hough, New Church Minister.
· Death Certificate for Richard Wisdom. He died February 21, 1909 at the age of 69. He died of nephritis and uraemia. He was living at 1421 South 15th Street and was to be buried in Wilmington on February 24, 1909. Envelope elsewhere shows payment of $7.00 for permit to bury Richard in Wilmington & Brandywine plot. [note:is he there?]
· A Declaration for Invalid Pension from Richard H. Wisdom aged 64 living in Philadelphia. Declared an invalid because of rheumatism, injury to right knee, lumbago, defective sight, advanced age and general debility. Filed by an attorney, Anna M. Druen. Filed 3/11/1907.
· General Affidavit filed 7/13/1898 detailing Richard H. Wisdom's service in Civil War. He also served in E Company for 3months, reenlisted in Regimental Band in 1st Delaware volunteers. Band mustered out in 1862. Enlisted for 9 months in 5th Delaware Volunteers, Company C, emergency call and was finally discharged in August 1863.
· General Affidavit 4/15/1898--filed claim 3/11/1897, examined by Surgeons on 7/17/1897. Where is pension?
· Military Service Record, War Dept., dated 4/27/1892.
· Affidavit 3/19/1909 Hester Wisdom asks for pension to be paid to her.
· General Affidavit from two witnesses stating that Richard and Hester were married and lived together at the time of his death.
· Declaration for Pension, witness statements. Describe Richard as 6 feet tall, light complexion, blue eyes, sandy hair with occupation blacksmith, born 3/8/1832 in New York. He lived in Wilmington Delaware until 1877 when he moved to Philadelphia.
· Declaration for Widow's Pension, March 19, 1909--standard form
· Department of the Interior, Bureau of Pensions, dated 6/25/1898. Commissioner found no record of Richard Wisdom's service with E company, 1st Reg't, Delaware as corporal and private. Co. MI + O. rolls only on file. Only record in service from June 19, 1863.
· Declaration for Increase of Pension 2/16/1907 from Richard Wisdom. Discharged at Camp Hamilton, Va.
· Bureau of Pensions, United States of America Department of Interior. Certificate declaring Hester Wisdom eligible for $12 per month pension as of the 7the of April, 1909.
·
