bullet  General Notes:

He served in the U.S. Army Berlin Germany in Amshach Germany his rank was E-7. The last name changed to single (T).
Had Polycystic Kidney Disease and a cadaver kidney transplant in the early 1980's.
This was one of the most gentle and kindest man I have ever known. I have yet to find anyone in the family that will speak an unkind word about him. He grew up poor, money wise. He has scarlet fever when he was young. After high school he joined the army as part of the single corp. during that time he married my mother. At one time I am told while in the army he taught at West Point. After getting out we moved to Dodge County, Dubois, Georgia and stayed on one of grandfather's farms and he did some farming. Being that communications was his love, they decided to move to Manassas Virginia in the Bull Run area. There he went to work for AT&T (Atlantic Telephone & Telegraph Company). He started out as a lineman digging holes and putting in poles for the wires. During this time he went to and did correspondence schools to further he education. He never went to collage. During the years he moved up into management, working at the Toll Center in Alexandra, during this time we moved to Mt Vernon in Fairfax County Virginia, his fathers home. Later on we moved to Woodbridge Virginia in Prince William County, It was at this time, he went to work for Continental Telephone Company. This was the time that he moved up in management to being in charge of all the Toll Centers in the area from Washington D.C. to Richmond. He also built new centers from scratch. He was giving the project like this; I want this built. Find the land, contractors and build it. Then after building it. Hire all the people to run it and by the way it is yours to manage. Then he would go on to another project. When he became real sick the company would have his driver pick him up at home and take him to the projects until they were all completed and then he retired on medical disability.

bullet  Research Notes:

Service # 43049265 out in 53/54

bullet  Medical Notes:

It is my opinion, that he died as a result of the failure of the doctors to see that he had a ruptured bowel for a week, (His regular doctor was out of town) in time for surgery to be successful. The poison had already spread in his body. His transplanted kidney failed due to the poison. The liver failed also. He requested to be taken off of life support and refused dialysis. He died a few hours later.

bullet  Burial Notes:

National Memorial Park.
Placed above ground, as a young man he dug graves at Pohick Cemetery in Accotink, Fairfax County, Virginia. He stated that "Faster than he could bail water out of the graves the faster it came in". He did not want to be put in the ground.
