bullet  General Notes:

arrived America 21 Sep 1731 Philadelphia, Pa.
Mabelle Martin's tape with Garry Myers III 1971:
GCM: OK - the John, the first John in Baltimore, - that you know about because of his estate (he died without leaving a will). - You haven't been able to trace his origins back any further than Baltimore?

MM: There's a missing link between John of Baltimore and Hans-George in Philadelphia. ( earlier she said: " There is a legend in the family that our ancestor were two brothers who were the first of many Eppards who came to this country and those two eppards were Hans-George and Michael. And we have traced the Michael family to the Northwest of Philadelphia. We found a lot of Eppards in Burk and Lancaster Counties in Pa. and we think they are our Eppards but we haven't got any direct paper proof as yet. I think that if I ever get up to Burk county and Lancaster to go through the records there. I may find something. They were fleeing from religious persecution, the Catholics, down the Rhine River."

GCM: and how many years are there between them?

MM: From 1731 when they landed in Phildelphia up to 18?? when he died, 1810. But we do have a record of John and George owning land in Burk county (Pa) in 1765. ... These two brothers are the same two brothers that were in Baltimore

Note: Spelling of the name -
In the estate settlment it is Eppard but in the census of 1790, the first census, it is Epard.

The ship that came from Rotterdam and landed in Philadelphia in 1731. This applies to the Epard Brothers who may be the linkage with the brothers in Baltimore.

CLE's notes: Copy of pages 104 and 105 sent to Phyllis and Royal Eppard by Shirley Breeden and later sent to me by Phyllis Eppard. Original has two blanks that were filled in by someone later. I have identified this by putting the blanks in and putting the filled in information beside it in parenthesis. Like this --------- (filled in information).

"...Family notes on the maternal ancestry of Mary Margaret are interesting, if brief, and are as follows. They were copied from the notes of her son, George Conrad.
"Margaret Starke - Born ----(Feb. 17) 1698 and died in 1778 was married twice. Her first husband was George Ebert and her second, Mr ----- (Charles) Crossone. She was said to be 80 years, 9 months and 13 days old when she died. A daughter by her first marriage was Margaret Christinia Ebert, born Feb 2, 1738 and died December 19, 1818. She married Jno George Jacob Moyer (or Mayer) who was born January 6, 1720 and died February 9, 1796. Their daughter, Mary Margaret, married Capt. Stephen Conrad."

Notes sent to me (GarryMyers) by Phyliss:
Hans George Ebert, son of German family and European Palatinate, was born in 1701. He came to America 9-21-1731 in the ship Britannia, of London. It is believed that Michael is his brother, & they came to America together. He met Margaret Starke in Pa., and married her . She was from Scotland, where one of the Starke family members was elevated to noble rank for an act of bravery in saving the life of a prominent person at the risk of his own. (Taken from book "The Conrad Clan", written by Floyd Wilmer Coffman - published by Joseph K Ruebush Company, Harrisonburg, VA. 1939. The following is taken from pg 104 of the book "Margaret Stark Born 1698 and died in 1778 was twice married. Her first husband was George Ebert and her second, Mr. Charles Crossone. She was said to be 80 years, 9 mos. and 13 days old when she died. A daughter by her first marriage was Margaret Christena Ebert, born February 2, 1738, and died December 19, 1818.
