bullet  General Notes:

"Shirley Breeden found the evidence of the Eppard twins baptism, proving that Wendel Ebert is father of George. We had heard stories of twins but didn't know that George had a twin Philip." source Janet Eppard letter to Garry Myers dated 1/19/97
Marjorie Browkaw of Winterset, Iowa. Notes sent to G C Myers by Janet Eppard in 1995:
George and his family are found in the various Census records for Rockingham Co. Va. after 1800 and in 1850 we find the names of his children and their ages, with George's age listed as 71, living with his son Wesley.
Catherine, his wfe was listed as 50-60 in the 1840 census, but did not appear on the 1850 list. The dividing line between Page and Rockingham Counties where it follows Naked Creek is also part of the original "Fairfax Line surveyed by George Washington for Lord Fairfax. The Eppards lived on both sides of this line, so some are Page Co, and others in Rockingham Co.
George owned Shenandoah Valley lands lying between Naked Creek and Dry Run, and one deed indicates that he owned part of Fox Mountain from which Ore was excavated to supply the "Big Jim" iron furnace at Shenandoah. and a smaller one at a location called " Furnace #2". A railroad ran from the ore bank to the two furnaces.
Dr. George Eppard of Washington D.C. recalls seeing Naked Creek run red from ore washings when he was a child. The 1860 census lists George's holdings at $7000.00. This information was obtained by Clyde Eppard & Clyde also states that George owned a water powered mill on Naked Creek. Royal & Phyllis Eppard arn't certain about this, but we do now know that George & his father Wendel were miners and farmers, so might have had a mill. Clyde Eppard states that he visited this area in 1965 and found the lands formerly owned by George to be gently rolling valley lands. Eppards still own and occupy some of this land in the shadows of the Blue Ridge MNountains. Clyde is the grandson of Uncle Will (our Grandmother Floretia's brother) and Aunt Polly Eppard.
George & Catherine Beasdley Eppard, and probably son John (our great grandfather) are buried on Eppard land, now owned by Shirley Seal Breedens father ______________ Seal's side of family. Shirley's Aunt and Uncle ___________ Seal live on the George Eppard land. It is possible Geo & Catherine were moved down into a field, as in 1800 there was a terrible flood & it washed out several graves. Grandma Hepner's motherNancy Maurice or Morris was buried there, & washed out. This was told to Shirley Breeden, by a very old woman. It is not known where Nancy Maurice was reburied.
