In reply to my source of information for Thomas's birthplace. His daughter Ethel wrote out information on the family before her death stating her father, Thomas was born Aug. 9, 1863 in Richmond, Va. in Henrico Co. I have a copy of the information she wrote out from the information her father Thomas had given her.

My father gave me the information on Eliza that was passed down to him from his grandfather Thomas. Thomas was Eliza and David's son. I have no documentation on this, just word of mouth. David and Eliza owned a farm in Richmond, Va. He served in the Union Army during the Civil War. His home in Richmond, Va. was near the site of one of the war battles. His wife was found dead in the home, ( it was said she died of fright or a heart attack) the three children were with her, baby Thomas clutched in her arms. After her death John and Francis were sent to live with other families in the area. Baby Thomas went to live with his mother's parents. After the war David returned home and recovered the two boys but his daughter was never found. ( This is the story that has been passed down through my family through the generations.) My father is still living and remembers a lot of the old family history that has been passed down through the years. As I said before I have no documentation but have heard these stories since I was a small child from my great grandfather and grandfather. Thomas lived with us until I was about 8 years old. We have written down a lot of this information and this is just a small bit of it.

Sealed and dated this 4th day of August 1853 and in the 78 year of the Commonwealth. The condition of the above obligation is such, That whereas a marriage is shortly to be solemnized between the above bound David Shifflett and Eliza Morris Daughter of Simpson Morris of Rockingham County; if therefore, there shall be no cause to obstruct the said marriage, then the above obligation to be void; otherwise to remain in full force and virtue.

David next married Sarah Francis Miller [19752] [MRIN: 6947] in 1865. (Sarah Francis Miller [19752] was born in January 1833 in , Rockingham , Virginia, USA and died on March 5, 1907 in Cuba, Fulton, Illinois, USA.)
