Civil War Record: Union Army, Company "K" 11th Missouri Regiment Cavalry Volunteers. Enlisted 20 Aug 1863 at Hartsville, Missouri, Mustered in 8 Sep 1863 at Benton Barracks, Missouri. Deserted 10 Dec. 1863 at Rolla, Philips County, Missouri.
Tradition has it that he returned home with the body of his dead Son, Thomas (Ahas), who had died 22 Nov 1863 at Rolla, Missouri. He enlisted in the CSA with Fristoe's Regiment, Missouri Cavalry, Co. "C" in Missouri on 28 Jan. 1864. His
Regiment surrendered 11 May 1865 and he was a POW at Jacksonport, AR. where he was paroled 5 Jun. 1865. John and his younger brother Richard were in the same Company during the war. His Military Records state that he was born in Tennessee.
He moved to Missouri from Tennessee, but he was born in Madison County, GA.
John Manry moved from McMinn County, TN. 1859 and was living near Hartville, Wright County, Missouri Aug. 1860. After the war he is listed on the 1867 Fulton County, AR. tax records. John returned to Wright County, MO. 20 Oct. 1877 and sold
his land that was near Big Piney Forest. He is listed on the 1880 census in Fulton County, AR. as a widower. John returned to Wright County, MO. in 1890 to visit his sister Elizabeth. John is listed in Pleasant Ridge Twp. Fulton County, AR.
Record of Voters 1893. He is listed in the Fulton County, AR. 1900 census with his fourth wife Ida and four children. John died in 1901 and is buried in the Manry Cemetery outside of Agnos, Arkansas in Fulton County.
