Notes for Charles (Charley) HARVEY

Tradition says that Charles Harvey married Lavina Back in Carbondale, Jackson County, Illinios. There is no record of a marriage between a Charles/ Charley Harvey and Lavina Back in Jackson County, Illinois and no record of a marriage between
them in the State of Illinois. It would be reasonable to assume that they may have been married in Missouri, since their first born, Emma was born 18 Oct 1863 in Missouri and that Lavina was living in Stoddard County, Missouri, 8 Aug 1860 with
her Parents.. Also, Tradition has it that Charles was in the Civil War and that he had come back home to see his new born daughter, Elizabeth Serilda Jane Harvey born 8 Jan 1865 in Illinois and that he was killed on the way back to joining his
unit. A search of the Charles (Charley) Harvey's in the Civil War (Union or Confederate) in Missouri and Illinois did not reveal any Soldier named Charles (Charley) Harvey being killed in 1865. The Death Certificates of Emma and Serilda states
that their Father's name was Charlie Harvey born in New York. His wife Lavina is married to George Causey on 25 Aug 1867 in Williamson County, Illinois and is enumerated on the 1870 Census of Williamson County, Illinois as Lavina Causey with
her daughters Emma Harvey born 18 Oct 1863 in Missouri and Serilda Harvey born 8 Jan 1865 in Illinois (Williamson County??) and a son Jacob Causey born Nov 1869 in Williamson County, Illinois. It is not know who Charles Harvey's parents were. A
search of the 1860 Missouri Census have revealed three Charles Harvey's. ( No.1) Charles W. Harvey Age 22 born in Illinois living in St. Charles Township, St. Charles County, Missouri enumerated 16 Jun. 1860 with the family of James Harmon
working on Farm. (No.2) Charles Harvey Age 23 born in New Jersey, occupation Blacksmith, living in Mount Vernon, Lawrence County, Missouri, enumerated 21 Jul. 1860 living in Hotel of A. J. Duvnil. (No.3) Charles Harvey Age 21 born in New York
living in Jefferson Township, Daviess County, P.O. Gallatin, Missouri enumerated 19 Jul 1860 with G. Harvey Age 47 born in New Hampshire, Farmer and Lavinia Harvey Age 38 born in Vermont. Of the above Charles Harvey's Number 3 seem best to
fit the profile of the Charles Harvey that was married to Lavina Back. Of course, there may have been a Charles Harvey move to Missouri after the 1860 Census was taken, that could be her husband. There is a Charles Harvey age 12 born in New
York enumerated on 20 Aug 1850 Warren, Lake County, Illinois Census living with his parents Thomas Harvey age 39 born in New York and Ruth Harvey age 34 born in England with his brothers and sisters, all born in New York and there is a Charles
Harvey age 12 born in New York enumerated on 16 Sep 1850 Virgil, Corttaus (Courtland) County, New York with his parents Rowland Harvey age 54 born in Rhode Island and Polly Harvey age 46 born in New York and his brothers and sisters, all born
in New York. There is no documented proof that any of the above Charles Harvey's were the husband of Lavina Back, but is is reasonable to believe that one of them that was born in New York may be him. The only documented record that I have
that his name was Charles (Charlie) Harvey is the death certificates of the daughters Emma and Serilda, also the only documents that I have that state he was born in New York are the death certificates and some of the Census records of the
daughters, Emma and Serilda.
