This card appears to be a copy of the original card. The
odd thing is that it is on heavy-weight paper. Corporal Bernard Slater
sent this card to his sister Agnes Slater
Thompson. Bernard made the
notation "To Girly, Ed, George, Allen & "the young
un" on the lower left corner. "Girly" is Agnes, Ed is her
husband Edward Thompson, George and Allen are sons
George and Eddie
Allen Thompson, "the young un" is daughter Diane. He probably
didn't yet know Diane's name or even if she was a boy or a girl - she
was only 3 months old. Bernard was killed in action at Anzio on
31-January-1944. |
