Know all men by These Presents that we James Perryman and wife Sarah E.J.V. Perryman are held and firmly bound unto W. F. Young and S.P. Shaw in the Sum of Four Thousand dollars for the payment of which will and truly to be made to them their heirs and assigns we bind ourselves our heirs and personal representatives Sealed with our Seals and dated this January 25th 1860.

The Condition of the above obligation is Such that whereas the above bound James Perryman and Sarah E.J.V. Perryman have this day by their Attorney in Fact I.P. Lowry bargained and Sold to Said W.F.Young and S.P. Shaw the following described Land Situated in the county of Tishomingo and State of Mississippi known and designated upon the plan of Survey of the Chickasaw Cession as the South West quarter and the West half of the South East quarter of Section No Twenty-five (25) in Township No. Five (5) of Range No Six (6) East for the Sum of Two Thousand Dollars, One Thousand Dollars of which has this day been paid in cash to Said I.P. Lowry Attorney in act as aforesaid and the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged and the Said W. F. Young and S.P. Shaw have given their obligation under their Seals to pay to Said I.P. Lowry as Attorney in fact for the use of Said Sarah E.J.V. Perryman (formerly Sarah E.J.V.Lindsey) to whom Said Land descended

• 15 Jul 1861, James joined the Confederate Army at age 25, Mt. Carmel, Smith County, Texas. Civil War Records: shows he served with E Company 14, Texas Infantry (Clark's Reg. and Texas Inf.) He was apparently discharge about 1863. Records also show he "served with distinction.
Other records show he was sworn in at the front of the Post Office in Mt. Carmel, Texas.

• Apr 1862, Military-Civil War: James Perryman, Garden Valley, Smith County, Texas, USA. 9 "Born Nov 16, 1836 in Henderson County, Tennessee. Enlisted in the Confederate Army in April, 1862, near Tyler, Smith County, Texas, as private in Company E. Fourteenth Texas Infantry, Clark's Regiment, Randall's Brigade, Walker's Division, Trans-Mississippi Department. J. J. Flinn, first Captain, and Clark, first Colonel. Was in several skirmishes, but never in regular battle. Was promoted from private to Orderly Sergeant. I was at home on furlough when Banks' Army was defeated; also had a battle with Gen. Steele's Army on Saline River at Jenkin's Ferry."

Perryman sell land to W.F. Young & S.P. Perryman bought a place an I taken one half interest in it an I renderd it for 1914 and paid for 1915 makes the reccords Show that it is my property it is not So the land is neither mine nor his untill paid for there is rents a give ?? for more ? five hundred dollars John T. Perryman rendered that land for ? and paid it 1914 in his absence I rendered it ? 1914 and paid it in 1915 makes the reccords that I own the land I do not my part of the rent is helping him pay the note against the land we want to keep the taxes paid So you can see at once where the mistake is if you want more evidence let me know at once it is the last december number I did not get I got the March number I hope this will make satisfaction yous truly James Perryman"

Syble's Research:
Mary Boyd Perryman was James' 4th wife. She was first married to James Perryman's brother -- W. M. Perryman who died. (Mary and husband-W.M. Perryman had six children) and they were brought into the home of James Perryman and his children. At one time they had 17 people in living in their home.
