William Perryman, states in an application for his Revolutionary War pension that he was born the 14th day of February 1759 in Charles county, Maryland. He also states that he entered the service in the year of 1776 under Capt.
Cofer [not sure of spelling]. He marched from Prince William county, Virginia where he then lived to
Colchester and
Dumfries and assisted in guarding these towns to prevent the British from coming in and destroying the towns and citizens.
He states
that in the year of 1780, he was drafted under
Col. Dudley in the County of Caswell,
North Carolina and served as a light horseman. He states they
were at
Brush Creek where they fought against
Col. Fannan [prob. Fanning], Commander of the Tories and then in a second skirmish at
Cape Fear in North Carolina.
He states that he fought in a third skirmish on the same river,
but lower down, and again defeated Fannan [Fanning] running
him into the state of South Carolina.
