Research Notes:
From the memoirs of Jessie Daniel Caudle, wife of Ross Caudle and daughter of William Martin Daniel and his second wife, Mary R. Belle Williams "Father's first wife, Louisa Jane Cline, died and left him with four children. At that time he lived in Missouri. He left his children with their mother's sister, Betty Westherspoon (?Witherspoon) and went to Texas to visit his brothers and sisters. That's when he met my mother, Mary R. Belle Williams, who was staying with her brother, John Williams and his wife Georgia. Georgia was my father's, (William Martin Daniel's) niece."
James Daniel's notes: After the death of William Martin Daniel, Mary's brother, Johnny Williams, came to her "rescue". He rented out her farm and pocketed the money. He put her up in a shack near where he lived, then she discovered that he was an alcoholic and a gambler. He got in trouble with the law and she hid him until they could all move to the Indian Territory. They stopped a few miles across the Red River between Durant and Ardmore where he put the children to work picking cotton. He would collect their wages and they would never see a dime of it. He was very abusive to the children. After a few year of this treatment, she met Mr. Guest, who was much older. She married him to get away from her brother, and they moved back to her farm in Texas. The children never liked Mr. Guest, but at least he got them out of a vey bad situation.
Mary married William Martin DANIEL, son of William P. DANIEL and Martha WIGGINS, on 4 Jun 1882 in , Hill, Texas, USA. (William Martin DANIEL was born on 18 Feb 1848 in , Bedford County, Tennessee, USA, died on 28 Apr 1894 in Dublin, Erath, Texas, USA and was buried in Pecan Cemetery, Dublin, Erath, Texas, USA.)
Mary next married Martin B. GUEST.
