CLINE, Robert Lee "Bob"

  General Notes:

Papa was a tall (abt. 6'2") very thin man, very dark skin, high cheek bones and deep set eyes (definite Indian features). He stayed with us from time to time, and what I remember most was that he got up very early, and thought everyone else should be up also, so he'd get dressed and go sit on the front porch and peck on the wooden floor with his walking stick until we got up. My bedroom was next to the porch, so it would always wake me up.

30 April 2007 Ruby Land related this to me: Uncle Bob and his family lived seven miles from them (Antny's family).

• 20 Jun 1870 he appeared as Robert L. Cline, son, age 1, born abt 1869 in Georgia on the census in Webster, Jackson, North Carolina, USA. ²

• 10 Jun 1880 he appeared as Robert Cline, brother, age 11, born abt 1869 in North Carolina on the census in Cassville, Bartow, Georgia, USA. ³

• 14 Jun 1900 he appeared as Robert Cline, looks like age 50 (should be 30), HOH, born Sep 1869 in Georgia, white American male, married 11 yrs., spouse is Ida, marriage year 1889,ccupation is Farm laborer, renting, can read, write and speak English on the census in Farmersville, Collin County, Texas USA. ⁴ Pct 8 ED 23, Dwelling and Family 214
It states his parents were born in Alabama, his father was born in Georgia and mother was born in North Carolina, I assume this was a mistake on the census taker's part.

• 29 Apr 1910 he appeared as Robt L Cline, age 41, HOH, born abt 1869 in Georgia, General Farming, renting, married 16 yrs. to Ida, parents born in GA, can read and write and speak English on the census in Hopewell, Smith County, Texas, USA. ⁵

• On 5 Sep 1958 his obituary was published in the Tyler Telegraph, Tyler, Smith, Texas, USA. Robert L. Cline. ¹⁰ LINDALE ---Robert L. Cline, 90, died at 3:45 a.m. Thursday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Irene Fleming, in Swan. He had been ill for a week.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Mt. Sylvan Baptist Church under the direction of York-Caudle Funeral Home.
Survivors are two sons, Claude Cline of Lindale and W. W. Cline of Longview, four daughters, Mrs. Fleming, Swan; Mrs. Blanche Stann (should be Spann), Longview; Mrs. Helen McDowell, Mineola; Mrs. Bonnie Gatling, San Francisco; 25 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. " (Bonnie is the one listed as an adopted daughter on the 1930 census, they treated her as a daughter and she continued to keep in touch with them, but as far as our family knows, they didn't legally adopt her.)
"Grandsons will be pallbearers.
Mr. Cline was born in Georgia and had lived around the Lindale community for 52 years. He was a retired farmer. " (If this is correct, they came to the Lindale area in 1906.)

Robert married Ida F. DANIEL, daughter of William Martin DANIEL and Louisa Jane CLINE, on 24 Jul 1889 in Bosque County Courthouse, Meridian, Bosque, Texas.¹ (Ida F. DANIEL was born on 20 Sep 1874 in Aurora, Lawrence, Missouri, USA, died on 26 Oct 1953 in Tyler, Smith, Texas, USA and was buried in Mount Sylvan Cemetery, Mount Sylvan, Smith, Texas, USA.)

  Marriage Notes:

They broke up housekeeping several years before Granny's death, They each lived with their children for a month or so at a time, then Granny got an apartment in Tyler and was living there at her death. Papa went to live with Irene in Woodlake, Tx, and after Irene's husband died, she moved back to Smith County, near Tyler, Papa continued to live with her. Until a few years before his death, he continued to go to the other children's homes for a short stay, but mainly lived with Irene.
