bullet  Noted events in his life were:

• Research: 2 Lineage rationale. There is no direct proof that John is a son of Jacob Cline, However, there is some evidence that he is.

John's transactions in the records imply a birth date no later than 1754, making him of an age to be Jacob Cline's child. In fact, since John's first son in born in 1774, John is probably born prior to 1750.

John's land on Adams Creek in near the residences of both Jacob Cline and Jacob's brother Michael Cline. Jacob and Michael are the only Clines in the county old enough to have fathered John. John's heirs later hold land on Coldwater Creek near the heirs of Michael Cline.
John is also linked to the Jacob and Michael Cline family by his association with Michael Cline's nephew, Christopher of Lincoln county, at a 1772 estate sale.

All of the above implies that John is a son of either Jacob or Michael Cline, Michael Cline has a proven son, John, but he is considerably younger than this John. Therefore, this John Cline (1.3.1) is the probable son of Jacob Cline(1.3)

• Family history: 1772-1792. 2 "The earliest record for Joh Cline is his attendance at the estate sale of Valentine Weaver in Cararrus county in 1772. Sebastian (Boston) Cline's son Christopher, of Lincoln county, also attends this sale.
For John to be recorded in attendance at this 1772 estate sale and to be on the 1778 tax list and a landowner in 1779, as discussed below, he has reached in each case his age of maturity--18 to 21 years old. This means he is probably born prior to 1750 in order to marry prior to 1774."

"On May 29, 1779, John Cline appears as a landholder adjacent to George Fisher's claim on *Adams Creek in Cabarrus county. This places John near both Jacob Cline (1.3) and Michael Cline (1.8) and indicateds that John is related to them. John's age is that of a son rather than a brother of Jacob or Michael. John (born aboaut 1745-1750) is their probable son of Jacob Cline(born 1713). "
*"The Adams Creek area is close to St. John`s Lutheran Church where the first Lutheran minister came from Germany by way of Charleston in 1773 to what was then The Buffalo Creek Meeting House. Adams Creek flows south easterly by St. John`s Lutheran and empties into the Dutch Buffalo which empties into Rake River (Rocky River). The eastern side of Cabarrus is where the majority of the German speaking people settled. Source: e-mail 6/4/11 from John Blair of NC
"John Cline (1.3.1) dies in 1786 and his widow, Mary Cloin (Cline), in December 1786, relinquishes her right of estate administration to Conrad Sterns and Fredrick Plyler (head of the district that includes Michael Cline). John Cline's estate settlement papers, in October 1792, identify two minor sons, Henry Cline and David Cline and their guardian, Michael Weaver."

• Tax List: Aug 1778, Rowan County, North Carolina. 3 John Cline is on the tax list of Captain D. Smith's district in
Rowan county. This is the same district where Peter Cline (2.1) and Philip Harmon are listed in 1778. This district is believed to be near the Uary
(Uwharrie) River in eastern Rowan county
. Later, Peter Cline and Philip
Harmon are in northern Rowan county on Potts Creek. Jacob Cline (1.3) is
on Captain F. Smith's 1782 tax list in Rowan county, so it seems that both
Jacob and his son, John, have a taxable presence in Rowan county about
1780 as well as in Cabarrus county. It is interesting to note that Peter Cline,
a grandson of Peter Cline (2.1), is bondsman for the 1812 marriage of Jacob
Cline's (1.3) son Philip. If there is any family relationship between Jacob
(1.3) and Peter (2.1), it is not yet uncovered. Their respective heirs do not
live near each other. Peter's heirs are in northern Rowan county and Stokes
county and Jacob's heirs are in Cabarrus county or further west.

• Family: 29 May 1779, Cabarrus County, North Carolina. 1 "John Cline appears as a landholder adjacent to George Fisher's claim on Adams Creek in Cabarrus county. This places John near both Jacob Cline (1.3) and Michael Cline (1.8) and indicates that John is related to them. John's age is that of a son rather than a brother of Jacob or Michael. John (born about 1745-1750) is the probable son of Jacob Cline (born 1713). Michael Cline (born 1725) has a proven son John Cline (1.2.14), but that John is much younger, born 1770-1774."

• 1780, John Cline is on the tax list for Cabarrus county, North Carolina

• Tax List: 1 1782 tax list in Rowan county includes Jacob Cline on Captain F. Smith's , so it seems that both Jacob and his son, John have a taxable presence in Rowan county about 1780 as well as in Cabarrus county.
