Family says that the George W. stands for George Washington, but the only records I've found list his name as G.W., George or George W.
• Discrepencies: Age. 1850 census list his age as 29 - dob would be abt 1829 • 11 Nov 1850 he appeared as Doctor Cline, age 21, farmer, born in North Carolina (some believe this is George W. Cline) on the census in , Murray County, Georgia, USA. 1 His parents, David A. and Mary Cline are living in the household of their son and George W.'s brother and sister-in-law, David A. & Eda E. Cline, who are also living in Murray County, Georgia. The census enumarator was the same, Absalom Holcombe and was dated 18 Sep 1850. • 20 Jul 1860 he appeared as G. W. Cline, age 32, HOH, born abt 1828 in North Carolina, Value of Real Estate $100 and Value of Personal Property $75 on the census in Webster, Jackson, North Carolina, USA. 2 • Abt 1861-1863, Military: George W. Cline, Civil War. 3 According to records that were published by the North Carolina Division of Archives and History: "16th NC Infantry Company A April 1861-October 1862", George W. Cline, age 38 is listed with the Noncommissioned Officers and Privates as serving with the Thomas Legion Regiment and disignated Company A of that Unit. Later the company was transferred to the 39th Regiment, NC Troops, and designated Company K. Records show that two companies mixed together as one regiment, Thomas' Legion and Walker's Battalion. "Record of Events for William Holland Thomas' Legion, Walker's Battalion, Levi's Battery Light Artillery, North Carolina Troops, April 1862-1864" states these volunteers were mustered in for local defense of the Carolinas, East Tennessee, Southwestern Virginia, and the Cumberland Mountains in Kentucky. • 20 Jun 1870 he appeared as George W. Cline, age 47, HOH, born abt 1823 in Georgia, Farmer, Value of Real Estate just has a check on it. Value of Personal Property $150 on the census in Webster, Jackson, North Carolina, USA. 4 • 10 Jun 1880 he appeared as George Cline, father, age 60, born abt 1820 in Georgia. His son, David A. Cline is listed as HOH. on the census in Cassville, Bartow, Georgia, USA. 5
• 10 Feb 1936, Tombstone: Application for Civil War Headstone, Mount Calm, Hill, Texas, USA. George W. Cline, Private George married Narcissa NEWTON, daughter of Solomon NEWTON and Kizziah FARLEY, on 4 Feb 1852 in , Haywood County, North Carolina, USA. (Narcissa NEWTON was born about 1836 in , Macon County, North Carolina, USA and died in 1900 in Farmersville, Collin County, Texas USA 6.) The cause of her death was Flu.
