19.  Richard Thompson3 BURNOP (Richard2, Jacob1) was born September 7, 1856 in Westmoreland County, England[1],[2],[3] and married Nancy E. Vaughan, daughter of John Wesley Vaughan and Margaret J. Butler, on June 8, 1874 in Carroll Co., VA.[4]  Richard  married Susan S. Crabtree on October 8, 1889 in Smyth Co., VA.[5]  He died April 12, 1937 in Smyth Co., VA, at age 80 and is buried in the Old Bethel Cemetery in Smyth Co., VA.[6]

     He was a Methodist, converted at an early age by the Rev. Bob Sheffey.[7] He was a miner in 1870 in Carroll Co., VA[8] and a farmer on June 8, 1874 in Carroll Co., VA.[9]  Richard was a farmer in Chatham Hill (first listed in 1880) between 1876 and 1894 in Rich Valley, Chatham Hill, Smyth Co., VA.[10],[11],[12],[13],[14]  He lived between 1880 and 1900 in Rich Valley District, Smyth Co., VA (Rich Valley District found on 1900 VA Census Soundex).[15],[16]

     Nancy “Nannie” E. VAUGHAN was born on November 14, 1853 in Carroll County, VA.[17],[18],[19] She died on June 18, 1889 in Carroll Co., VA, at age 35 and is buried in the  Thompson Cemetery in Smyth Co., VA.[20],[21]  She was  a Methodist.[22]

     Children of Richard Thompson3 Burnop and Nancy E. Vaughan were as follows:

+      28.        i.    William H.4 Burnop, born June 7, 1876 in Rich Valley, Smyth Co., VA; married Virginia T. Olinger.

        29.       ii.    Mary Ann Burnop; born October 16, 1878 in Rich Valley, Smyth Co., VA;[23] married Adolphus S. Oaks May 2, 1897 in Smyth Co., VA.[24]

        30.     iii.    Augustus “Gussie” Virginia Burnop; born November 9, 1880 in Rich Valley, Smyth Co., VA;[25] married John F. Richardson September 8, 1893 in Smyth Co., VA; ceremony by W. N. Wayner;[26] died May, 1973 at age 92; Last address associated with Radford, VA.  Social Security was issued in VA.  Residence in VA.[27]

+      31.      iv.    Bertha Allie Burnop, born September 7, 1883 in Rich Valley, Smyth Co., VA; married Elbert Eden Howell.

        32.       v.    Rachel Flora Burnop; born September 8, 1886 in Rich Valley, Smyth County, VA;[28],[29] married W. L. Goodwin July 7, 1908 in Smyth Co., VA; ceremony by L. Brown.[30]

+      33.      vi.    George W. Burnop, born November 3, 1887 in Smyth County, VA; married May Campbell.

     Susan S. CRABTREE was born on April 9, 1869 in Smyth Co., VA.[31],[32] She died on October 4, 1946 at age 77 and is buried in the Old Bethel Cemetery in Smyth Co., VA.[33]

        34.        i.    Charles4 Burnop; born December 17, 1890 in Rich Valley, Smyth Co., VA;[34] died December 17, 1890 in Rich Valley, Smyth Co., VA.[35]

        35.       ii.    John Henry Burnop; born January 23, 1892 in Smyth County, VA; There may be two children named John H. Burnop, the first dying.  The Smyth Co. Birth Register lists one on Jan 23, 1891 and then another in Jan 1892.  Social Security says Jan 23, 1892 but his gravestone says Feb 23, 1892;[36],[37],[38] married Gertrude Mae (--?--) circa 1912;[39] died February 20, 1981 in Saltville, Virginia, at age 89; buried in Old Bethel Cemetery, Smyth Co., VA.[40],[41]

     His Social Security Number information was Burnop, John (Jan 23, 1892-Feb 1981); issued in Virginia.  Residence code in Virginia, last known residence associated with Saltville, Virginia and address where death benefit payment was sent was associated with Marion, Virginia.[42]

+      36.     iii.    Claude E. Burnop, born September 2, 1894 in Rich Valley, Smyth County, VA; married Ethel M. Oakes.

        37.      iv.    Robert F. Burnop; born September 18, 1898 in Smyth County, VA;[43],[44] died April 20, 1925 at age 26; Buried in Old Bethel Cemetery in Smyth Co., VA.[45]

        38.       v.    Merle Burnop; born circa 1900; married ? Ferguson circa 1925 in Marion, VA.

        39.      vi.    Myrtle Burnop; born July 19, 1901 in VA;[46],[47] died December, 1984 at age 83; Buried in Roselawn Cemetery in Smyth Co., VA.  Last address associated with Marion, VA.  Social Security was issued in VA.  Residence in VA.[48],[49]

        40.    vii.    Bessie Burnop; born August 17, 1904 in VA;[50],[51] died January, 1985 at age 80; Buried in Roselawn Cemetery in Smyth Co., VA.  Last address associated with Marion, VA.  Social Security issued in VA and residence code in VA.[52],[53]
