208.  Henderson6 HYLTON (Burwell5, John4, Elijah3, George2, John1); born 1843 in Floyd Co., VA;[1] married Margaret Weeks December 28, 1865; died June 29, 1921, buried in the Henderson Hylton Cemetery in Willis in Floyd Co., VA.[2]

     He began military service on September 10, 1861 when he enlisted at Christiansburg in the 54th VA INF, Co. A.   Present on Jan 1, 1862 and Dec 31, 1863.  Taken POW at Kelly's Store, Suffolk Co.  Paroled and exchanged.  In Bell Hospital, Rome, GA in Oct. 1863.  On clothing receipts dated Dec 24, 1863 and Mar 7, 1864.  Henderson Hylton was part of the army surrendered by General Joseph E. Johnston at Greensboro on April 26, 1865 (two weeks after Appomattox).  They were paroled at Greensboro, NC on May 1-2, 1865.  At that time the unit was a consolidation of the 54th and 63rd VA INF called the 54th Battalion VA INF.[3]

     He was a carpenter.  Listed in 1869 as a mechanic in Floyd Co., VA.[4]

     Margaret WEEKS was born circa 1845.[5]

          380.          i.     Ann L.7 Hylton; born January 3, 1867 in Floyd Co., VA.[6]

          381.         ii.     Joseph M. Hylton; born August 31, 1868 in Floyd Co., VA.[7]

          382.      iii.     Simon Andrew Hylton; born August 12, 1870 in Burks Fork Township, Floyd Co., VA.[8]

 

 

219.  Sparrel L.6 HYLTON (Bryant5, John4, Elijah3, George2, John1); born 1843 in Floyd Co., VA;[9] married H. L. (--?--) circa 1865.[10]

     He began military service on October 31, 1861 when he enlisted in the 24th VA INF, Co. A.  Wounded at Seven Pines; returned to duty during Spring of 1863.  Participant and survivor of Pickett's Charge at Gettysburg, PA on Jul 3, 1863.  Detailed for light duty with home guard at Floyd in Dec. 1863.  Captured at High Bridge on Apr. 6, 1865.  Described as 6' 2" with fair complexion, auburn hair and blue eyes.  Released from Point Lookout POW camp on June 14, 1865.  Resident of Floyd Co., VA.[11],[12]

     H. L. (--?--) was born circa 1845.[13]

     Children of Sparrel L.6 Hylton and H. L. (--?--) were:

          388.          i.     Sparrel L.7 Hylton; born circa 1867; died November 26, 1867 in Floyd Co., VA.[14]

 

 

224.  Maston Bottom6 HYLTON (Gordon5, John4, Elijah3, George2, John1); born May 10, 1837; married Nancy Elizabeth Lindsey circa 1860; died February 27, 1906 at age 68.[15]

     He lived in IL after the war.[16] He began military service on May 16, 1861 when he enlisted in the 24th VA INF, Co. A at Floyd Court House.  Age 26 and a student at the time.  Absent sick in the summer of 1861.   Captured at Williamsburg; later paroled and claimed to have joined the 27th VA Battalion.

     Enlisted in 25th VA CAV, Co. E on Sep 1, 1862 in Montgomery Co.  Detailed in Oct 1862 as Nurse in Richland, Tazewell Co. Hospital.  Present again by Dec 1862.  Promoted to Corporal Jun 30, 1863 and then to Sergeant Jul 3, 1863.  Wounded in action Sep 23, 1864.  Present through Dec 1864 muster roll.[17],[18]

     Nancy Elizabeth LINDSEY was born on December 7, 1839. She died on March 7, 1929 at age 89. [19]

     Children of Maston Bottom6 Hylton and Nancy Elizabeth Lindsey were:

          389.          i.     Walker Lee7 Hylton; born February 6, 1867; married Eliza Laura Roberts August 6, 1890; married Margaret Catherine Moore October 19, 1939.[20]

 

 

229.  Catherine6 HYLTON (Henry5, Archelaus4, Elijah3, George2, John1); born July 20, 1839 in VA;[21],[22] married Silas Pratt, son of John Pratt and Nancy Agnes Hylton, March 24, 1860 in Floyd Co., VA;[23] died November 6, 1925 at age 86.[24]

     Silas PRATT was born in 1837 in Floyd County, VA.[25] He was a farmer in 1860 in Floyd Co., VA.[26] He began military service on October 9, 1861 in Jacksonville, VA  when he enlisted in 54th VA INF, Co. D at Jacksonville.  Died at Prestonsburg, KY on 12/26/1861.[27] [28]

     Children of Catherine6 Hylton and Silas Pratt were:

          390.          i.     Liona7 Pratt; born July 30, 1860 in Floyd Co., VA.[29]
