Generation Four

 

134.  Andrew Jackson KEISTER (3074); born February 16, 1840 in Pendleton Co., VA (WV);[1], [2] married Sarah A. Hively (3075) circa 1870;[3] married Huldah Armstrong (3076) circa 1875; died June 3, 1924 and was buried in the Pine Hill Cemetery, Pendleton Co., WV, at age 84.[4]

     He inherited the family homestead, with brother John D. Keister.[5] He was a farmer on his father's farm in 1860 in Pendleton Co., VA.[6]

     He began military service on June 11, 1861 at Hevener's Store.  In the Civil War he enlisted in the 25th VA INF in Co. C as a Sargent.  His service record follows.

     From 25th VA INF Roster-by Armstrong

              1st Co. E. Enlisted June 11, 1861 at Hevener's Store.  4th Sgt.

     Present June 11, 1861--June 30, 1861.  Elected 4th Sgt. on June 25, 1861. 

     Surrendered at Beverly, WV on July 13, 1861. Paroled at Beverly, WV on July 17, 1861.  Absent January l, 1862-November 19, 1862. Exchanged on Aug 16, 1862.

      As POW-age 21, 5'7, dark complexion, dark hair and black eyes.

              

From 62nd VA INF Roster-Delauter, Jr.

     Sgt., 2nd Co. K.  Enlisted September 4, 1862 in Highland County, VA

     Present as of April 30, 1863.  Promoted to Sgt. May 19, 1864.

     Captured September 22, 1864 at the Battle of Fisher's Hill, VA.

     Sent to Point Lookout, MD Sept. 30, 1864 and exchanged March 17, 1865.

      He was described as Age 21, 5'7, dark complexion, dark hair and black eyes in July, 1861.[7]

 

     Sarah A. HIVELY (3075) was born on September 12, 1840.[8] She died on August 25, 1871 at age 30.[9]

     There were no children of Andrew Jackson Keister (3074) and Sarah A. Hively (3075).

 

     Huldah ARMSTRONG (3076) was born on October 1, 1846 in VA.[10],[11] She died on January 5, 1923 at age 76.[12]

     Children of Andrew Jackson Keister (3074) and Huldah Armstrong (3076) were as follows:

       217.        i.    Cora D. (2993); born 1876 in VA;[13] married Joseph Simpson (2997) circa 1900.

       218.        ii.    Harry W. (2994); born 1878 in WV.[14]

       219.      iii.    Mary V. (2995); born 1880 in WV;[15] married Melvin Guyer (2998) circa 1905.

       220.       iv.    Mattie (2996);[16] born circa 1885; married Clay Shiflett (2999) circa 1910.
