Generation Six

 

16.  Joseph BURK (436); born 1745 in Montgomery Co., VA;[1] married Margaret Grant (437) December 29, 1766 in Rowan Co., NC;[2] died 1785 in Montgomery County, VA.  The family says he was drowned near Pepper's Ferry.[3]

 

     Margaret GRANT (437)[4] was born circa 1745. She is in the Montgomery Co., VA land records, "1796, MARGARET BURK from Henry Carty, 98 1/2 acres Meadow Creek branch of New (River)."[5]

     Children of Joseph Burk (436) and Margaret Grant (437) were as follows:

+          19.          i.       Mary (403), born circa 1770; married Jacob Shell Jr. (402).

            20.         ii.        Rebecca (442);[6] born circa 1770.

            21.       iii.        James (439); born circa 1770; married Betsy Cooper (440) December 14, 1814 in Montgomery County, VA.[7]

            22.         iv.       Sally (441); born circa 1770; married Richard Havens (448) December 17, 1789 in Montgomery County, VA.[8]

            23.          v.      Nancy (444); born circa 1770; married Jacob Douglas (446) October 4, 1798 in Montgomery County, VA.[9]

            24.         vi.       Naomi (443); born circa 1773; married Bolling Rogers (447) February 8, 1798 in Montgomery County, VA.[10]

            25.       vii.       Jonathan (438); born circa 1780; married Sally Cooper (445) November 6, 1805 in Montgomery County, VA.[11]

     He is listed as a witness to the Henry Carty will on March 18, 1806 in Montgomery Co., VA.[12]

19.  Mary BURK (403); born circa 1770; married Jacob Shell Jr. (402), son of Jacob Shell Sr. (416) and Catherine ? (417), December 28, 1787 in Montgomery County, VA.[13],[14]
