True Meaning Of Christmas
Christmas Today
is a party galore
Everyone getting gifts
and still wanting more
Bright lights and stockings,
cups of good cheer
A chance to see Santa
and eight tiny reindeer
Department stores decked out
before Thanksgiving Day
Reminding us all
it's not too far away
The loud speakers piping out
tunes we all know
about silver bells, Santa,
and men made of snow
People are rushing
and flitting about
Checking lists to be sure
that they've left no one out
Sometimes I'd like to scream,
"People stop where you are!"
You've forgotten the babe!
You've forgotten the star!
Christmas began
with a miracle birth
When the Son of God
was sent down to Earth
To live hear among us
to show us the way
To teach us to love
and to teach us to pray
He was born in a stable
He slept in the hay
This my friends,
was the first Christmas Day
Yes, there were shepherds
and wise men alright
They did bring him gifts,
but not all that same night
For days, for months,
and all through the year
There were many who came
to that baby so dear
The only bright lights
were the stars up above
And the face of the baby
that beamed with God's love
No trees, no stockings,
and no mistletoe,
No stories of reindeer
or men made of snow.
So please don't loose sight
of that first Christmas Day
A family, a stable,
God's Son in the hay
It was not meant to be
just one day set apart
But the spirit of
love within every
man's heart.
