These files are related to a variety of early immigrant descents. The quality
varies by source, but I believe each of them offers useful information
on Swinney, Swenney, Swinea, or other early "Suibhne" immigrants. Contributions
to any of these areas are welcome.
This pamphlet was produced as an adjunct to a Swinea family reunion in
1983 by Robert Wayne Swinea. Much of the early references in this work
come from Boddie's work below.
"Southside Virginia Families"
This work by John Bennett Boddie was published in 1966. It contains two
sections which chronicle early Suibhne families in Virginia:
This is an ongoing collaboration between Phil Estep and myself. I will post the latest versions of this as we develop it.
Descendant Charts
These should include both a text Descendancy Report and a GEDCOM file.
I welcome additions or corrections to my "Swinney" file. The Website section
includes pointers to other sites which include "Suibhne" genealogies.
Please be aware that the others are extracted from other sources.I
have kept the original source information intact even where I suspect it
is wrong. I only plan to correct them if someone identifies a transcription
error.

Immigration Records are notoriously incomplete, and I have barely scratched the surface in this area. In keeping with my focus on "Pre-Sweeney" records this section offers a collection of "Suibhne" migration records before 1830.
These transcriptions only include "Suibhne" entries; they are NOT full
transcriptions or indexes. If you find an error or omission in these, please
contact me. I have reproduced the original spellings, but I may have missed
any truly unusual ones. (I only found Ed "Sinney" in 1860 TN because he
lived near a "Swinney" family.)
March of the Clan Suibhne: Here's my rendition of the tune in midi format. (It's what you hear in the background if your browser is enabled for it.)
The Mac Suibhne "Coat of Arms": If you take your heraldry seriously, please avoid this section. If you think a few picture liven up a database, then have a peek.
(There's a more scholarly look at the issue of crests and arms in the "Contradiction of Arms" section at www.sweeneydoeclan.com )
Photos: So far I don't have much here. I'll be happy to post and photos you might send.
You can thank Barbara Collin for these early Swiney photos.
This one MAY be William B. Swinney
This is Arthur Swiney and his spouse
And an unidentified Swiney female (2nd photo) - probably a descendant of William.
Here's a current photo of John Swinney, Member of Parliament, Scottish National Party.
