William Paxton married Agnes Laing, daughter of Alexander Laing and Jane Ogilvie, on 7 September 1846 at Mains And Strathmartine, Angus, Scotland.3 William Paxton left a will on 22 June 1865 at Dundee, Angus, Scotland; it is a lengthy will discussing various personal belongings and business arrangements.4 He died on 28 March 1866 at Dundee, Angus, Scotland, at age 59; cause of death was pulmonary tuburculousis.2
