
To Florence and family Sunday April 10th 1938
My dearest girl here I come to try to ans & thank you for the birthday token you are the only one that thought of me on my 77th birthday I guess the other children forgot they had a mother of course georgie had a poor chance I no she would of sent me a card if she could but she rites to me as often as she can I always send her a stamped envelope so to be sure she has the postage I was glad to hear you was all well I am a little better but not well by eny means I cant get out & do very much it was 3 weeks last Thursday since I got my hip hurt seems like along time that
Ive had to crippel around & try to do a little something I havent been to the spring for 3 weeks but weve been having lots of rain & put out vesels & cought ---- rain water & we had a snow it would have been 6 or 8 inches if it hadent melted as fast as it fell & it got pretty cold on the ground was covered & it froze some ice but it didn’t do much damage you see the moon was light & there has been some destructive tornadoes killed & crippled several in Missouri Oklahoma & Arkansas & texas done thousands of dollors damages I am scared of those wind storms if one comes up in the night I always get up & put my clothes on & light the lamp & stay up taill the storm is over
Well ive cooked & fixed a little bite of diner & ate got my dishes washed & layed down a few minits now I am going to rite some more well ive got 2 good two true friends but they live five miles from me a man & his wife I see him every day he is our rural mail carrier he has always been good to me you see Dicks book keeper at Iowa Park teas is a rural mailman to so him & Mr Moore got to corresponding with each other & he asked Mr Moore to look after me & see that I did not get in need or sick & no one to take care of me so that’s why he is good to see after me Mr. McKinney is a mighty fine man thinks a lot of Dick & he would be good to me for Dicks sake eny way I havent fot a neighbor here on the ridge they are all selfish & I wont ascociate with
Or have eny dealings with them but ive got lots of friends in Noel every body knows me I walk to town but don’t walk back some one brings me home well Mr. & Mrs rice the produce man & wife was just here Mr. Moore told them I was sick so him & her come out to see about me & see if I needed eny thing from town I told them I was going to need some feed for my chickens & mabe a sack of whole wheat flower & that was about all I could make out for I dident eat much its been a lovly day but I havent felt a bit good I don’t sleep much it was about 3 oclock when I droped off to sleep & I dident get up till 8 but I dident sleep eny after daylight well I must stop & get this in the box hoping this finds all well with love for all from Mother
