This part is still evolving as i collect addresses to the places i've been.... So far the little pictures next to each category is random and it might just stay that way.

It's probably somewhere else, but who cares.

Clan Sutherland - Tartans an' a' that (Made wi' a Mac, no less!).
Some fine History of the Sutherlands.
An even more fine History of Scotland (including an An Idiot's Guide to Celtic History for the time-challenged).

This is semi-officially the Civil War as it relates to Russell County, however it has such interesting historical information as the 'Anatomy of a Census' (The 1860 census was enumerated by Isaac Vermillion and even his handwriting style is examined) and a few Top Ten lists (such as first names for men and richest families in the county).

Russell County Research Books

Russell County (VA) History Vol.I & II

Walsworth Publishers - An immensely popular series of County Genealogy and History Books for residents of Virginia,

West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky and Pennsylvania, and for people elsewhere with roots in these states

With over 30,000 links, categorized & cross-referenced, in over 90 categories, Cyndi's List of Genealogy Sites is MORE than just the McDonalds of Genealogy sites of the internet, it is the freshest and voted 'best fries' by discriminating customers! Unfortunately FINDING the list itself among the advice and web-page how-to's may be a bit daunting at first, but just scroll down...

Maps

Library at the University of Texas has some very interesting historic maps that include indian territories, explorations and other material. Things like more than 100 city maps around 1900, National Parks, and well, tons of stuff. This library puts up large maps for internet use and even though there are many and detailed they are not copyrighted (the maps and derivatives that i use mostly) because they are public domain. They ask only, and resonably, that you credit their site when publishing them. They'd also like to know what creative use you've them to.

Some English Genealogical Resources - Yes, i know... it's an AOL website, but it's pretty darned good and is, refreshingly, a list of many many links. His Family Legends, Fact or Fiction makes an interesting read, especially for those of us who've gone thru the correcting process in our family history.
