St Nicholas Church

St Nicholas Church - the ancient Parish Church

next >

St Nicholas stands on a hill north-west of the old town. Now surrounded by buildings, it would have been set apart from the village when first built.

There was a church mentioned in the Domesday book - it is not known if St Nicholas is on the site of the Saxon church. St Nicholas Church dates from the 14th century. It was partly rebuilt in the 19th century. The font dates from Norman times.
