All Saints, the Parish Church of Patcham
In 1861, the population of Patcham was 490 (Black's Guide to Sussex). Patcham became part of Brighton in 1828, when the boundaries of Brighton were extended by Herbert Carden to include Patcham, Preston, Rottingdean and Woodingdean. The exterior of the church seems to have been covered in something like cement disguising the age. Parts of the church date from the 12th and 13th centuries. There were additions during the 19th century. This is when the 13th century painting above the chancel arch was discovered.
